For the participants of the rally who wave the Palestinian flags outside the EU buildings in Brussels, it is at that moment that everything can change.
The EU reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs revealed that Israel violated human rights obligations in accordance with the EU-Israeli Association Association Agreement, ahead of the European Union leaders on Thursday.
The European Union’s more trading partner in Israel, and the participants of the rally demand that the EU suspend the 25-year trade agreement on Israel’s actions in Gaza.
But their hopes that the EU leaders will agree to suspend the agreement with Israel was soon spoiled because, despite the report, deep divisions remain over the war in Gaza.
The participants of the rally were supported by more than 100 NGOs and charity organizations.
In 20 months, more than 55,000 gases were killed by Israeli military operations, the Ministry of Health Hamas reports. Another 1.9 million people were moved.
In early March, Israel also imposed a general blockade of humanitarian aid in gas, which it partially decreased 11 weeks after pressure from the US allies and warnings of global experts that half a million were running out.
Since then, more than 400 Palestinians have been reportedly killed by Israeli rifles or shelling, trying to get to the food distribution centers governed by the American and Israeli organization. Another 90 were also killed by Israeli forces, trying to approach the UN escorts and other benefits.
“Each red line was transferred to the newspaper”, Agnes Bertrand Sanci with Oxfam reported the BBC.
“Every rule was broken. In fact, the time has come to the European Union.”
As the report was announced, he came to Kaj Kalas’ foreign policy chief to explain what the European Union will do next.
The first purpose of the EU would be to “change the situation” on the ground in gas, she said. If this did not happen, “further measures” will be discussed next month on how to suspend the association agreement.
“We will contact Israel to know our conclusion,” she came across an uncharacteristic way. “Because it is the focus of the Medicine States, to really, you know … Be very, very confident in the feelings we have here.”
NGOs said the EU missed the opportunity to take action and that the answer was powerless.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the review “complete moral and methodological failure”.
For some EU critics, the episode has become a striking example of how the EU can talk to a good game about becoming the world’s largest humanitarian aid donor, but badly struggles to present any consistent or powerful voice that fits it.
As the world’s largest market for 450 million people, the EU carries a lot of economic weight, but it does not translate into a political disassembly.
“The fact that European countries and the UK do not make any more to put pressure on Israel and comply with international humanitarian law is very difficult for these countries to be reliable,” said Olivier de Shutster, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights.
“Military crimes are committed on a very large scale in Gaza. There is a discussion on whether it is a genocide, but even if there is no genocide, there is a duty to act.”
De deter fears that the soft power of the EU is lost, and its inaction complicates it greatly to convince the countries of Africa, Asia in Latin America to support Europe by condemning, for example, a Russian war in Ukraine.
Israel claims that it acts within the framework of international law and that its mission is to destroy Hamas and bring home other hostages taken when Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023. The attack killed about 1,200 people, causing Israel on Gaza.
As an alliance of 27 countries, the domestic political reality in Europe makes EU leaders support the views of most member states in Gaza.
Eleven EU countries have recognized Palestine to the state, and among them Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Slovenia and Sweden pushed the European Union agreement with Israel to be rejected.
EU decision -making in Brussels is based on the fact that the decisions should be unanimous, and therefore only one disagreeing voice can prevent the EU to take action.
In this case, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic oppose.
Austria hopes the EU’s review is an action, but not necessarily suspension of the contract with Israel.
“Everything I have heard in this connection will not help people in the newspaper,” said the Foreign Minister, Bat Mainel-Rissinger. “However, this can be a deterioration if not a complete disassembly of the dialog that we now have with Israel.”
Germany’s position in Israel was often formed by its role in the Holocaust and World War II.
Chancellor Friedrich Mertz says “the current level of gas attacks can no longer be justified by Hamas”, but he refused to consider suspending or terminating the agreement.
Slovakia and Hungary are considered more careful with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu than in many other EU countries.
Among the key players who advocate tougher measures against the Netanyahu government are Ireland.
Foreign Minister Simon Harris condemned the EU in this consideration.
“Our response was too slow due to gas, and too many people were left to die when a genocide was carried out,” he said.
Israel rejects the accusation of genocide, and when he closed the Embassy in Dublin last December, he accused Ireland of anti -Semitism.
Recently, Europe has ended up from Washington on the Great World Affairs, in particular Ukraine and Iran – with President Donald Trump for direct negotiations with Russian Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu Israel.
The US may not listen to the mood, but the EU gas fights for gathering a single voice on the gas, not to mention it.
