The court believes that the journalist is unfairly fired by Gaza Post

The journalist won his case against Australian national television company, and the court ruling was unjustly fired for a post on social media about the war.

Antonet Latouf said the Australian broadcast corporation (ABC) fired it without a “proper base” or “proper process” when its five -day contract as a leading radio in December 2023.

A few hours before she was fired, Lattuf shared Human Rights Watch (HRW), which was critical of Israel, which, according to ABC, violated its editorial policy.

Lattuf sued the illegal dismissal, saying that she had been fired because of her political views, her race after lobbying of pro-Israeli groups.

Shortly after leaving the air the next day, Latuf was told to pack their belongings and leave, while the decision to remove it from the ether instantly traced into the media. This left her reputation in Tatters, Latuf says.

Last year, she took her case to the Australian Commission, which after the mediation failed, decided that she was fired by paving the way for her actions in the federal court.

There, the Lattuf team claimed that ABC was subjected to external pressure on the appointment of a temporary radio host, even before it started a short contract.

Elizabeth Green, Lattuf manager, told the court that there was already pressure from the “higher” to remove the Latuf before the HRW publication shared.

The court heard that the former chairman of ABC Ita Buttrose sent several letters complaining about Lattouf senior executives.

BBC also saw dozens of WhatsApp messages from two groups showing a coordinated company to write letters against Lattouf on days before it was fired.

The ABC, Ian Neil SC, claimed that Latuf was not fired, and just said she would not need to work in the last two days of the contract, saying: “We are talking about two changes, two programs.”

Neil also claimed that the inclusion of the contract is not in the sanctioning of Lattouf, but to protect the reputation of the television blower.

“Pulling out anyone from the air is designed to protect ABC, not for the punishment of the employee,” Neil said in the final arguments.
