The show will have a major change in the timeline.
“If we told the story linearly, we would not reach adult washing until chapter 7,” said Hinds Ew. “So the structure suggested itself.”
Showrunner Kimberly Ann Harrison The decision broke out, adding, “We wanted to show the story of Wash’s origin because that is very important. So those two timelines were to show the boy that he was, and then, the man he grows to is very important to us.”

“The thing about sterling is that it’s not some kind of diva movie star that is like, ‘Write me a huge role.’ That’s what is going to serve the best story. It took me a few months to find out that so much of this story is about mentorship, who you mentor it and who you’re mentoring, ”shared Hinds. “I realized we needed a counterpoint to a relative (his mentor) Titch with Wash for the Wash adult version. We already had that character in the book in Bedwin, so from there he was just building it out.”
Brown balanced his starred role with being an active producer.
“He was in a video village, he gave notes to the actors,” Remembered Harrison. “I had never really come across that – to see an actor step into the role of that producer in the way he did with problem solving, talk in the budget. It was great to work with him as an actor and at the producer level.

“Many of these conversations around identity, around race, around tribal, they are always here,” Hinds noted Ew. “There is only a matter of times there is a piece of art that brings them to the volume where we all hear and are aware of them.”
Harrison expanded, meanwhile, The theme of the series. “There is who people think you are supposed to be and who, when you question your own identity, you choose to be,” he noted. “We are in a place where people start to question and ask those questions where they didn’t have before.”
