New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has officially announced its 15-member roster for the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025which will be held in Malaysia. The team is made up of a mix of experienced players and new talent, aiming to make their mark on the world stage.
Now Wakelinan off-spinning all-rounder from Northern Districts, has been named captain. Wakelin was the top player at the U19 National Tournament in December and previously represented New Zealand at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023. She is among the five players, along with K.ate Chandler, Louisa Kotkamp, Emma McLeodi Kate Irwin — Returning to his second World Cup.
Seven players from Auckland Cricket’s under-19 national tournament-winning side have earned squad places. This includes Rishika Jaswala talented leg player who shared the Girls First XI ‘Most Valuable Player’ award with Emma McLeod in 2023 and won the award in 2024.
Sara McGlashanthe NZC High Performance Coach, highlighted the importance of representing New Zealand as a career-defining achievement, noting that World Cups provide a unique platform for players to showcase their talents on the international stage. He praised the team for its combination of diverse skills, sportsmanship and desire to grow, expressing his confidence in their potential to achieve great success in the future.

This team brings a mix of skill, athleticism and a willingness to learn, which the makes for a group full of potential for future success.” McGlashan said as quoted by NZC.
The squad will take part in a pre-departure camp in Wellington before meeting in Auckland on January 10. The next day he will leave for Malaysia. Ahead of the tournament, New Zealand will play two warm-up matches against the USA and the West Indies on January 13 and 15 respectively. The team will then compete in Group C, facing South Africa, Nigeria and Samoa in the group stage.
