India’s history of cricketing is full of prodigious talent stories in leadership roles at a young age. As Shubman gill He entered the field for the first test against England in Headingley on Friday (June 20), joined the younger captains of the youngest testing of the Indian Elite Club, a list that presents legendary names such as Sachin tendulkar, Kapil Dev and Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi.
At the age of 25 and 285 days, Shubman Gill has become the fifth youngest test captain in the history of the Indian Cricket, a testimony to his rapid increase and the faith that selectors have placed their skills. His appointment comes at a fundamental time, as India sails for a transitional period after retirement of the parameters Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Shot kohli.
Gill’s cricketing trip has been marked by early promise and constant performance. From the score of 351 in a school match at the age of 15 to the star of the World Cup of Children Children of India, its rise has been closely monitored. Since debuting his test in 2020, Gill has impressed with his composition and technical capacity, especially with his party that defined Gabba in 91 during the historic India victory over Australia. Now, as a captain, he faces an unpleasant challenge of directing a relatively inexperienced side in English conditions, with the aim of ending India’s long wait for the victory of the test series in England since 2007.
Decades before Gill, another young feeling of struggle was delivered: Sachin tendulkar. At just 23 years and 169 days, Tendulkar became the second youngest test captain in India in October 1996, leading the team against Australia in Delhi. His appointment was considered a natural progression for a player who was already a generational talent.
However, Tendulkar’s possession of captaincy was full of challenges. He directed India in 25 test games, winning only four wins, nine losses and 12 draws, leading to a percentage of modest 16%victories. The team fought during their leadership, particularly in a foreign condition, and Tendulkar ended up abandoning, paving the way for the success of Sourav Gangul’s success. Despite the lack of success of the team, Tendulkar’s personal performances remained stellar and his leadership inspired a generation of cricketers.
