Nick Fury of Samuel L. Jackson has become one of the most significant and identifiable characters in the Marvel cinematic legion. Make his first on-screen appearance in the very first post-scene scene at the end of “Iron Man,” Fury was introduced as director of Shield and the main master behind the Avengers initiative – The plan to bring together the most powerful heroes of the earth in a team that could defend the planet against threats that are too powerful for any one superhero.
Nick Fury from Jackson, known for wearing a large leather coat and Eeepatch, has appeared in 12 MCU films to date, as well as “shield agents” and Disney Series+ “Secret Invasion.” Like the ultimate spy and a man of mystery, much of the back of Nick Fury’s backstage was initially covered in secrecy. However, as time progressed and her story was developed throughout the MCU, more was revealed how Nick Fury became director of the shield that MCU Fans knows and loves.
By “Confidential Invasion” illuminated a lot of Fury’s past And his personal life, “Captain Marvel” explored her origin in the shield. This film also revealed the answer to one that fans had the biggest questions about rabies – how did he lose his eye? However, the MCU’s explanation for this unique injury was very different from the explanation given in Marvel’s comics.
Nick Fury lost his eye and saved the noisy commandos in the comics
When his first appearance made a comic book, Nick Fury was not the highly exploded superhero, Director of Shield Supporters know him as today. The character was originally presented as a sergeant. Rain in the comic “Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos,” a comic set in World War II. The series saw the first appearance of the Howling Commandos, which would then appear in the MCU in “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
Through the appearances of World War II Fury, he was seen without his eyepatch. In his first “modern” appearance, in 1961 “Fantastic Four” #21, he also lost the cloth, but appeared shortly thereafter in 1965 “Strange Tales” #135, and Shield introduced to the Marvel Universe. The explanation was given in “Sgt. Fury” #27.
The Comic revealed that Fury suffered an eye injury during World War II, while repeating a grenade thrown at the noisy commandos by a German soldier corner. Fury saved his men, but the explosion damaged his eye, leaving his need in action to save his sight. Unwilling to be out of action for a year as the operation would be needed, Fury refused, leaving the doctor to do the best he could. He restored this Fury’s look for a while, but his eye would eventually deteriorate, leaving him wearing EEEPATCH years later.
The MCU reversed fans’ expectations around Nick Fury’s Eeepatch
Wii Nick Fury’s Roots did not play in the MCU, so it was probably no fans of the movies Samuel L. Jackson’s version of Fury. However, Fury was expected to lose his eye in dramatic and heroic circumstances as the MCU. When “Captain Marvel” revealed how Fury lost his eye, fans were surprised, as the film picked a more comedy explanation.
“Captain Marvel” Nick Fury was seen joining Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and the alien Skrulls in fighting against the kree. Along the way, Fury met Goose – apparently in an innocent house cat, but in fact, Flerken. Although similar to cats, flerkens were a much more dangerous species, could eat human beings intact and have particularly dangerous clutches. While Fury was holding a goose, she scratched her in the eye. Despite Fury’s later claims that his eye was recovering, Danvers knew the wound would not heal.
At the end of “Captain Marvel,” it was revealed that Fury had never shared the true story of how he lost his eye, allowing rumors that she was wounded in a battle against the Kree to thrive. He also rejected the option of replacing the damaged eye with a false one, choosing instead of his iconic iconic EEEPATCH.
