In a meeting between the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Renegades at Perth Stadium during the 26th match of the Big Bash League 2024-25, Kane Richardson‘s excellent delivery was one of the highlights of the first innings. The Renegades medium-fast bowler produced a moment of brilliance to dismiss the Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner.
It was the seventh over of the Perth Scorchers’ innings when Richardson walked in to bowl Turner. At a good length, the ball again hit the right-handed Turner, who had no choice but to make an ambitious ball. However, with his feet barely moving, Turner left a significant gap between bat and pad, and the ball crashed into the stumps, leaving Turner dazed. The Scorchers skipper was out for just 8 runs off 13 balls, and the Renegades got their fourth wicket of the match.

Perth Scorchers were asked to bat first and managed to post a total of 147 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. The team struggled with the bat, with only a few notable contributions. Ashton Agar was the standout specimen, scoring a brave 51 off 30 balls, helping his team to a competitive total in the first innings. Melbourne Renegades bowling attack was led by Adam Zampawho gave an impressive performance. Zampa was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets and providing the much-needed breakthroughs to keep the Scorchers in check.
Both teams entered the match in different forms. The Perth Scorchers, sitting fifth in the points table with 6 points, have struggled consistently, suffering a 4 point loss to the Sydney Thunderstorm in their previous match. On the other hand, the Melbourne Renegades were just below them in sixth place, with 4 points, and suffered three consecutive defeats, including a 5-0 defeat Melbourne Stars in his last outing. This game was crucial for both teams to bounce back and gain some momentum in the competition.
