The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has announced a significant change to laws on the border line catches. According to Espncricinfo, a new rule, which will be integrated into the ICC play conditions in October 2026, will ban the catches of “rabbit-hop” where campers jump beyond the limit.
According to the previous law, the Fielders could contact the ball several times while outside the limit, provided they remained aerial. This disposition caused a debate during a Big Bash League (BBL) party of 2023 when Michael Neser pulled out a notable capture that raised his eyebrows.
Neser, near the wide long limit, took the ball but balanced the rope. He threw the ball in the air while still in the air, landed beyond the field, jumped again to play it outdoors, and then re-entered the field to complete the capture. Jordan Silk was declared.

The Marylebone Cricket Club addressed the growing concerns about the capture of the limit that many fans consider to be unfair. According to the new regulation, a capture is only considered valid if the campers come in contact with the ball once beyond the limit.
“MCC has devised a new writing that eliminates the” rabbit-hop “completely beyond the limit, but these catches are allowed where the camper pushes the ball from the inside of the limit, it is allowed out and then it is taken again to take the ball,” says MCC’s note.
“Our solution has been limited to any campers that went out of the limit to touch the ball while it occurred in the air only once and, after having done it, to be completely on the ground within the limit for the rest of the duration of this delivery.”
The updated limit of the updated limit will be integrated into the ICC play conditions this month. Captures similar to those taken by Michael Neser during the Big Bash League of 2023 will be considered illegal under the revised law.
The MCC further clarifies: “Even if the ball was removed, to another camper or inside the playing field – if the gardener ends out of the limit, or later goes out, then a limit. They must be inside.”
In recent years, Boundary’s Fielding Fielding has had spectacular individual efforts and an increasing tendency of relief capture, especially in the T20 cricket. These plays involve a camper who catches the ball near the limit and passing -quickly to a teammate before crossing the rope.
The controversial capture of Michael Neser in BBL 2023 was not unique. Later he credited his teammate Matt Renshaw for inspiration, pointing to a similar incident of the Big Bash League 2020.
Renshaw ran to his left towards a wide long one and took the capture just inside the rope. When he lost his balance and began to cross the limit, he quickly threw the ball into the air. Then he made another leap outdoors to play it again. Tom Banton completed the capture inside the field.
According to Espncricinfo, the revised law of the MCC will also affect the execution of relay catches. Under the new regulation, if a gardener touches the ball while it is off the limit and he must re -enter the playing field before the capture ends, even if the teammate completes the capture.
