In 2022, Kay was sentenced to 22 months in prison after being convicted of one count of drug classes leading to death and drug conspiracy.

The athletics reported on filing a new court, including one that was publicly posted by accident, relating to the case on Thursday, bringing Skaggs and Kay’s alleged history of drug use. The family are trying to show that the angels were aware of the use of Kay drugs and had reason to be aware that he was supplying drugs to Skaggs.
While deposits are usually sealed, The athletic says it is unclear why these were posted in public. The Angels attorneys accused the Skaggs family of their public posted in court on Monday, June 9, which the family has denied.
The angels filed a bid for a brief judgment on May 30, asking the case to be dismissed. The organization’s argument is that Skaggs’ own actions make him responsible for his death.
“Under the law it is significant that Tyler Skaggs has struggled with addiction for nearly a decade and intentionally used drugs from several different and illegal sources,” the legal counsel of the angels, Todd Theodorahe said.
Current employees and former teammates refused to comment The athletic. Weekly US also reached out to the angels for comment.
The offering of the angels included a deposition by the former Skaggs Ryan hamillWhere he testified that Skaggs would have told him that Miley would sometimes supply him prescription drugs. Both were fellow players on the Arizona Diamondbacks between 2012 and 2013.
“He came clean,” testified. “He said he had been using – I think he was percocets – and he said he got them through Wade Miley.”
Previously, Miley’s name came up during Kay’s sentencing when prosecutors played a recording where Kay Miley accused of being a Skaggs supplier. Miley does not face criminal charges.
