In response to a caller who asked whether ABC should have fired Moran, Stewart responded on the episode on Thursday, June 12, “The Weekly Show” Podcast, “Of course not. So stupid. No, for God’s sake. They should not have been fired.”
Stewart went on to criticize the network, describing it as “joke f *** ing.”
“Literally every day on Fox News, they pull things out of their context, or their people say completely vicious things about democratic politicians and all sorts of other things,” said Stewart, 62. “It all is because ABC clings to this facade that they somehow exist in a bubble outside all this. It’s a joke.”
ABC News said on Tuesday, June 10, would not renew Moran’s contract after previously suspended a tweet for a tweet about Trump and Deputy Head of Staff White House Stephen Miller.
“We are at the end of our deal with Terry Moran and based on his recent post – which was a clear contrary to ABC news policies, we have made the decision not to renew,” a network spokesman said in a statement. “At ABC News, we hold all our correspondents to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to providing simple, reliable journalism.”
ABC had stopped Moran from Sunday, June 8, following criticism of the post by a press secretary at the White House.
Moran, 65, referred to Miller and Trump, 78, as “world-class hatred (s)” in post X which has since been deleted.
“Miller is a man who is endowed with the ability to hate. He is a world-class nasty. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nutrition. He eats his hatred,” Posted Moran. “Trump is a world-class nasty.
Press Secretary of the White House Karoline Leavitt The criticism, writing through X earlier this month, responded, “This is unacceptable and unacceptable. We have reached out to @ABC to inquire about how they intend to hold Terry accountable.”
Moran, the ABC News National Correspondent, had been with the network since 1997 before he left.
