Wilder returns to the ring this April at BLK Prime

Deontay Wilder will fight at BLK Prime in April against an opponent yet to be determined. Wilder’s trainer, Shelly Finkel, will reveal his opponent in Los Angeles on Saturday.

For BLK Prime to get its money’s worth, Wilder needs to fight someone the fans are interested in seeing. He has looked hellishly bad in his last two fights, losing to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker.

Back in April

There has been talk that Francis Ngannou could fight Wilder. If that is the opponent, some people would like to see the match because Ngannou gave Tyson Fury a lot of trouble. This was a Fury out of shape.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs) is coming off a fifth-round knockout loss to Zhilei Zhang on June 1 in Riyadh. This was the 39-year-old Deontay’s fourth loss in his last five fights since 2020.

The shots Zhang hit Wilder with were much harder than Tyson Fury landed in his three fights with him.

“The Bronze Bomber” hasn’t looked like the fighter he once was since knocking out Tyson Fury in the seventh round of their rematch on February 22, 2020.

“I’ve been told that @BronzeBomber will be back for a comeback fight in April at BLK Prime. Wilder and trainer Shelley Finkel will be meeting with the media in Los Angeles on Saturday to announce the opponent,” he said Manouk Akopyan a Xtalking about Deontay Wilder’s upcoming fight.

Fans would love to see Deontay wrestle with the same ruthless aggression he had during his prime, but that doesn’t seem likely to happen. He’s approaching 40, super rich with an estimated net worth of $40 million, and can no longer pull the trigger on his shots.

It’s not that I can’t. He seems afraid to throw for fear of being found. That’s how Fury hurt Wilder, and it looks like he’s having a hard time forgetting that harrowing experience.

Wilder has won just one fight in the past five years, beating his former sparring partner Robert Helenius by a first-round knockout in 2022.
