Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Finalize Divorce

Jennifer Lopez a Ben Affleckmarriage is officially over.

The pair settled their divorce on Monday, January 6, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly. The news comes 20 weeks after Lopez filed for dissolution of marriage on August 20, 2024.

The relationship between Lopez and Affleck, 52, goes back over 20 years. Lopez and Affleck met on the set of Lilies in 2001 and became engaged in November 2002. They were initially due to marry in September 2003, but they postponed their wedding days before the planned ceremony, and in January 2004, it was confirmed that they had separated.

The two reconnected in May 2021 and got engaged again in April 2022. They tied the knot in Las Vegas in July and held a second ceremony in Georgia the following month.

In May 2024, speculation emerged about the state of Lopez and Affleck’s marriage after they were not seen together for 47 days. Us Weekly confirmed later that month Affleck moved out from their home in Beverly Hills.

Source telling only Us in June that they couldn’t “get on the same page (and have been). discussing divorce as an option.”

The following month, a second insider claimed to be there “picture of hope” for reconciliation.

“They go through so much individually and as a couple,” said a third source Us. “Maybe they will take some time to see if this complicated moment can resolve itself and they come back together (as) better people.”

Lopez eventually file for divorce of Affleck in August, listing April 26 as their date of separation. Instead of using an attorney, he submitted the paperwork himself on the two year anniversary from the duo’s Georgia wedding.

According to an insider, the filing date was no coincidence. “The the timing of the divorce It was a big fk for Ben,” the source said Us in August.

Despite the sting, a famous divorce attorney Chris Melcher speculated in an August interview with Us that Lopez’s decision to file without an attorney of record is “intended to send a message that this will not be a fight.” Melcher believed it was likely that the pair had already “developed most of (the) issues before going public with the filing.”

Lopez was previously married Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Chris Judd from 2001 to 2003 and Mark Anthony — with whom he shares twins, Max and Emme — from 2004 to 2014. Affleck, for his part, was married to Jennifer Garner between 2005 and 2018, and they co-parent their three children, Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.
