As the cricketing world extends for the ICC (WTC) World Championship of 2025 at Lord’s, Australia is in an enviable but complex situation: choosing the right pace attack for a unique final in a challenge England Condions.
Australia seeks the right third sewing to complement PAT Cummins and Mitchell Starc In the quick fixation attack. Although cummins will direct the team with its characteristic aggression and Starc provides a variation and a rhythm to the left, the real debate is between Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland. Both are highlighted red balls with proven profiles. Hazlewood, with years of experience, provides contrasting classic testing and proven credentials in English conditions. Baland, however, has appeared as a relentless and accurate force in recent years, especially in the final of 2023 WTC and during the ashes on the floor of the house. With the conditions awaiting Lord offering sewing and assistance to rapid disciplined bowls, Australia has to decide now if it should be kept with current experience or form.
Hazlewood has been a main point in Australia’s rhythm attack for almost a decade. With 72 tests under the belt and 279 doctors with an excellent average of 24.57, Hazlewood offers the type of control, discipline and bowel experience that prosper in English conditions. Its vertical sewing position and its ability to maintain a sounding line make it a handful in useful environments. Most importantly, Hazlewood has a record in Lord’s, having played three tests on the iconic site and took 13 doctors at 26.15. Through 13 tests in England, he has warmed up 52 doctors at 26.07, a testimony of their adaptability and dominance of Dukes-Ball conditions. Despite fighting injuries in recent years, Hazlewood’s class and coherence in pressure games, such as its strong show in the ashes of 2019, make it a convincing election for the final. If Australia chooses familiarity and experience, Hazlewood is the safest and most established choice.

Baland has redefined the success stories of Bloomer Late-Bloomer on the Australian cricket. Since his debut in the test in 2021, Baland has taken 56 doctors in only 13 games with an impressive average of 17.66 and a strike rate of 38. Shubman gill and Shot kohliIt cemented its reputation as a large bowl. Its unmatched control outside of capacity and its ability to extract a subtle movement makes it a consistent next. However, Boland’s performances in England have been bewildering so far. In three tests on English soil, he has only taken 7 doctors at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 71.1, well below its career standards. Above all, he has not played Lord’s, after being out during the ashes test of 2023. Although the recent form and Bulland’s performance under pressure are notable, his lack of success in England leaves a gap in his stellar resume.

When the two bowls are compared to the side, the contrast becomes stronger. Hazlewood has a long and successful testing career with a success in England, especially in Lord’s. Its 12 wicket actions and consistent ash performances make it an experience pillar. Baland, meanwhile, has much better strike and strike rate, but with a smaller sample size. He has not played Lord’s and his testing matches in England have been less shocking. But selectors cannot overlook their ability to rise largely, such as the WTC end and house ashes. The two bowls have an identical economy rate of 2.77, which suggests that both are control traders. The true division lies in the experience versus the reception: the experienced champion, Baland the Form Bowler.
