Andrew Garfield
Matt Winkelmeyer/WireImageNew year, new glasses? Andrew Garfield social media started freaking out after her hot appearance in the 2025 Golden Globes — but in an unlikely turn of events, it’s all his reading glasses.
The British actor, 41, appeared alongside Kerry Washington to announce nominees for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical / Comedy, at the ceremony on Sunday, January 5, in Los Angeles when he slipped on his glasses to read the teleprompter better – and Garfield’s thirst trap is done an early contender for one of the internet best friends from 2025.
Admittedly, a few things helped spice up this seemingly innocent moment: Garfield’s dark green Gucci suit looked perfect on him, especially with the matching shirt which happened to be slightly unbuttoned, revealing a trophy cute hanging. Above all, there’s the fact that Garfield is a man who knows very well how to hold eye contact and flirt with the camera – who can forget that iconic Chicken Shop Date appearance?
Garfield’s special moment immediately caught the attention of Golden Globes viewers on social media, with comments from fans via X including, “I would sign over my house for Andrew Garfield to look at me and then put on his glasses,” “ANDREW GARFIELD STOP STARING AROUND ME LIKE ESPECIALLY WITH GLASSES I CAN’T HANDLE THE LOOKS,” and, “They could make an entire 10+ minute video of people drooling over Andrew Garfield just for looking too small when wearing his reading glasses.”
Meanwhile, his co-presenter Washington, 47, unknowingly delivered some lovely words that were the perfect accompaniment to Garfield’s scene-stealing moment. “A great performance has the power to transport us,” he said as the We Live In A Time star slowly slipped on his glasses and adjusted his lapel. “When an actor falls so deeply into a character that we as an audience get lost in their portrayal, the result is magic, we become enchanted, unable to take our eyes off them.” We certainly do!
The Golden Globe was awarded for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy, presented by Garfield and Washington. Demi Moore for his role in The Substance. In an emotional acceptance speech, she exclaimed, “I really didn’t expect that, I’m in shock right now” — which pretty much sums up how we all feel about Garfield and his reading glasses, too.
But here’s the thing, Garfield is 41 years old. And no matter how famous and successful you are and how many skyscrapers you have scaled Spider-Manmiddle age can only mean one thing: deteriorating eyesight. So if you’re a millennial or Gen X-er who’s starting to struggle with the fine print too, just know that the next time you consider using a selfie stick to read a restaurant menu, you’re in good company – farsightedness even reduces smoldering sexual superheroes.
