These provisions clearly establish that establishments such as hotels, restaurants and airports must provide a specific and closed area for smoking, far from the general public spaces. The absence of such an installation in One8 Community places the restaurant in direct violation of these public health laws.
The report stated that, according to officials, the case was presented as part of a special driving of execution launched by the city of Bengaluru to ensure the strict compliance with smoking regulations in the city’s commercial points of interest. Karnataka’s harsh law intensifies pressure
The report also explained that this execution action is due to significant legislative developments of the Karnataka government, which recently imposed a blanket ban on Narguiles’ bars throughout the state. In addition, the legal age of buying tobacco products was increased from 18 to 21 years old, a movement that aligns with good global practices in the prevention of youth tobacco. These changes are part of the Cigarette Modification Act and other tobacco products (prohibition on advertising and regulation of trade and trade, production, supply and distribution) of 2024, which was recently signed in law after receiving the President’s nodding.

The controversy did not stop here. In December 2024, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) published a formal warning at the PUB for fire security violations and for operating without a certificate without objection (NOC) of the Fire Corps. The inspection revealed that the restaurant, located on the sixth floor of the Ratnams complex, had no essential fire safety measures. The complaint had been proposed by a local social activist, which asked the BBMP officials in the Shantinagar area to act. Despite multiple warnings and warnings, management did not fulfill or respond properly, increasing concerns about the ignoring of the establishment by the safety and regulation rules.
