The Australian woman who cooked toxic mushroom food told her that she had long been a mushroom lover, but recently developed the wild varieties of mushrooms that have “more flavor”.
Erin Paterson did not find herself guilty of killing three relatives, and for attempting to kill another, after a mushroom mushroom in his home in Victoria took place in July 2023.
Prosecutors say she intentionally put the poisonous mushrooms, but her defense team says it is a “terrible accident”.
Ms Paterson – during the second day at the witness’s booth, told the jury that she started harvesting wild mushrooms during the pandemic, over the years before the fatal nutrition.
Ms. Paterson’s son -in -law, Don and Gale Paterson, both 70, and his sister Gayl Hilkinson, 66, were hospitalized after eating beef in the lunch and died in a few days.
Jan Wilkinson, an uncle from the remote husband of Mrs. Paterson, also became ill, but survived after weeks of treatment.
After the court told the court, she accepted that the mushrooms of the death were in the beef velington she served, Mrs. Paterson told about the harvesting of mushrooms in different places – the botanical gardens, the railway trail near her home and her own property.
“I mostly chose field mushrooms,” she said in court, explaining that she sometimes resembled her two children.
She told for the first time when she tried wild mushrooms, cutting off a small part before cooking it in the oil.
“(It) is delicious and I didn’t get sick,” she said.
The court also heard that in April 2023 she bought a dehydler of the food, partly because the wild mushrooms had such a “small season” and she wanted to keep them for the next use.
Asked where the mushrooms came from for lunch at the center of the case, Ms Paterson said that the “vast majority” were purchased at the supermarket in Leonth, while some were purchased several months earlier at the Asian grocery store in Melbourne.
She couldn’t remember the “specific purchase”, but previously bought various mushrooms – Shitake, Porcini, Enoki – in such shops, she said. In another case, it acquired a “wild mushroom mix” or “forest mushrooms” that did not determine the exact contents.
Earlier, Ms Paterson passed through changes in her dynamics with Simon Paterson and her laws after the pair division in 2015.
“Immediately after that it was difficult … But it lasted only a couple of weeks … We came back to be really good friends.”
Her relationship with the laws “never changed”, she said.
“I was just their daughter-in-law-they just continued to love me.”
However, she told the court that her relationship with Simon became strained against the backdrop of finances since October 2022, and she tried to force her laws.
