The President of Bangladesh Cricket (BCB), Faruque Ahmed, was withdrawn from the presidential office for the Bangladesh Sports Ministry. Bangladesh’s sports adviser has now opened the reason for the Faruque Ahmed withdrawal from the presidential office.
Bangladesh’s sports adviser Asif Mahmud revealed that Faruque Ahmed’s performance in the last nine months was not up to the brand and also participated in irregularities in the report of the Sports Ministry Coverage Committee.

The Sports Ministry issued a statement on May 29 that they had received a confidence motion against Faruque Ahmed of the other eight counselors. Eight BCB directors agreed to eliminate Faruque from the presidential office and only Bangladesh’s former cattle, Akram Khan, opposed the confidence motion against Faruque.
Faruque was elected director on August 21, 2024 and became the chairman of the Bangladesh cricket on the same day, but his performance at the Bangladesh Cricket Board was not good in the last nine months.
The eight BCB directors accused Faruque of autocratic leadership and also emphasized the clause 14-B of the Constitution of Cricket of Bangladesh, who stated that the hiring or looting of any coach must be approved by all councilors of the Council.
Faruque eliminated Chandika Hathurusingha, lead coach of Bangladesh’s Cricket team, without the approval of other counselors. Ahmed was not working on the development of the Bangladesh cricket, nor did he respect the spirit of democratic governance, the Committee said.
Bangladesh’s sports advisor, Asif Mahmud, stated that the Committee did not eliminate Faruque due to corruption positions; He was taken out of his performance and all members of the Committee agreed on his lack of performance.
The Committee contacted ICC for leadership change, and the global body welcomed its decision. There is no communication gap between its advice and the ICC, as ASIF Mahmud states.
“We have contacted the CPI correctly. The new president also worked at the CPI for a long time,” Asif said in a press session in Dhaka. “There is no communication gap. ICC knows the situation here, so they have welcomed the decision.”
“I personally talked to Faruque Bhai. It’s not like we swallowed it up so we found corruption positions against him. It is totally based on performance. Just as a selection committee would not choose a player outside in shape, it is the same for us.”
This year’s BPL participated in many irregularities, such as the non -payment of abroad players in the Durbar Rajshahi franchise. It was a shame for Bangladesh’s cricket and his main counselor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, did not attend the BPL final due to shame.
“NSC has the jurisdiction of giving or making a nomination (director of BCB). We did not eliminate the President. We took his direction, and that is why his presidency had disappeared. We named another director. The Council followed the ICC’s directive and the BCB constitution to choose the following president,” said Mahmud.
Following the withdrawal of Faruque, the Board of Directors elected Aminul Islam as the new President of the Bangladesh cricket. Aminul scored the first century of Bangladesh trial and also worked with the ICC and ACC after his retirement.
The Bangladesh cricket is not on the right track, as they lost a T20i series against the Arab Emirates for the first time in their history. They lost two consecutive T20i games against unilateral Pakistan. Aminul will try to take some steps for a good change in Bangladesh’s cricket.
