Mama June Shannon She detailed her journey to receive Kaitlyn’s granddaughter’s custody after the death of her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell.

Unlucky died in December 2023 at the age of 29 after a battle with phase IV cancer. In addition to her mother and sisters, women survive her by Kaitlyn’s daughters, 13, and Kayleee, 10. (Anna Kaylee shared with ex-husband Michael Cardwellwhile Kaitlyn’s biological father was never publicly revealed.)
Since Anna’s death, Kaitlyn has rarely been associated with his younger sister.
“Unfortunately not, and it’s not because of us,” Mama June claimed. “(Anna’s death eventually) was a big conversation (for her), even outside cameras. That was a constant thing he would say, ‘You had to get used to it. Michael is going to take Kaylee and Y’all is never going to see Kaylee again.’ We knew that, so we were kind of preparing for that.
Meanwhile, Alana said Kayleee’s absence was “something (which they have to) deal with.”
“There is nothing we can do about it,” he added.
However, the famous family still has their memories.
“Kaitlyn is A steady reminder from Anna, ”said Mama June Us. “When we say attitude, look, (the way she) speaks, the way he laughs. (You listen to her) and you’ll be like, ‘damn, it’s Anna.'”
Anna’s death also reminded Mama June, Alana and her brothers and sisters for the importance of a family. (Mama June shared Anna and Jessica Shannon with David Dunn. Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird with Michael Anthony Ford and Alana with Mike “Sugar Bear” Thomson.)
“I feel that Anna Passing brought us all together as a family, just because we see that life is not as long as we think,” said Alana. “Sometimes it can end much faster than we were hoping. We are no longer trying to take a day for granted.”
