The family of one 9/11 victim accused the Biden administration of scrapping plea deals for alleged 9/11 masterminds for political purposes after a military court judge ruled that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin could not rescind the offers.
9/11 Justice President Brett Eagleson responded to the news on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” calling the situation a “terrible travesty” as families remain outraged that the death penalty could be overturned as a punishment for the suspects.

Brett Eagleson: It was a politically motivated decision to cancel it. We believe they knew all along that there was no way to do this, but in the midst of an election, on the eve of November, they were called on the carpet for a terrible decision. Look, I haven’t heard from a single 9/11 family member who thinks this is a good idea, and the reality is that everything about 9/11, everything about this 23-year national nightmare that we’ve had to deal with, has been a horrible travesty. since the days after 9/11.
From the time the US government worked with Saudi Arabia to cover up Saudi Arabia’s role, to the time we sent 5,000 or 6,000 of our troops to kill in Iraq for no reason, to the very fact that Congress simply denied benefits to first responders . , now this is… where we get these terrorist cute cupcakes. We’ve been kicked in the gut over and over again and we’re sick of it and we really hope that we finally have a president who will do the right thing here… I want to point out one thing, on September 11th of this year, when Vice President Harris and Biden sat behind the red rope at the World Trade Center 9/11 memorial, President Trump was… at a New York firehouse. He was there with me and I got a chance to talk to him.
And we said to him: “Mr. President, you were right in 2016 when you said that Saudi Arabia demolished those towers.” He said this on this very show on “Fox and Friends.” We said, Mr. President, that we should have gotten information not from the US government about the role of Saudi Arabia, we should have gotten it from the British government. We said: “Mr. President, the same people who tried to bring you down in Russia, Russia, Russia, Bob Mueller and the deep state of this country, the same people who blocked justice for us. These are the same people who came up with these horrible plea deals, is there anything you can do to help us?’ And he promised us that day at the New York firehouse on 9/11 that if he was elected president, he would do the right thing. He said he can deal with Saudi Arabia and he’s going to get us final justice and closure and we’re going to hold them accountable for it. And we really hope. This is a new start for America. We have a Republican controlled Congress, we have a president who puts America first. So let’s hope he really, really does.
RELATIVES OF 9/11 VICTIMS REACT TO DEALER’S DEAL: “A LIFETIME OF PAIN AND SUFFERING”
Eagleson, who is the son of a 9/11 victim, was outraged by the decision, as were many other family members, and is asking for more to be done. The plea deals would have allowed three men accused of masterminding the 9/11 attacks to plead guilty in exchange for immunity capital punishment.
The opinion of the court, which has not yet officially publishedsaid the plea agreements reached by military prosecutors and defense attorneys were valid and enforceable, and that Austin had overstepped his authority when he later tried to overturn them.
The Pentagon has the option of going to the federal appeals court in the District of Columbia for emergency review, but the court docket did not have the filings as of Tuesday afternoon.
The hearing is scheduled for next week at GuantanamoCuba, where Mohammad and two other defendants could plead guilty in separate hearings, with the death penalty waived as a possible penalty.
The prosecution is engaged in old business the terrorists were struck in the summer and approved by the top official of the Gitmo military commission.
