Tim David’s explosive half-century powered the Hobart Hurricanes to a five-point win over the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes bounced back from a shaky start thanks to David’s half-time heroics to secure their fourth win in five matches.
The Hurricanes started quickly, thanks to an aggressive opening partnership between Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade. The duo added 61 runs in just 28 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Owen was particularly destructive, smashing three consecutive sixes off Jamie Overton in the fourth over.
However, Lloyd Pope brought the Strikers back into the game by dismissing Owen for 37 off 16 balls. Wade followed soon after, falling 27-for-18 while trying to sweep Cameron Boyce. The Hurricanes, once sailing, met at 101/4 on the 11th.
With the limits drying up, Tim David took matters into his own hands. He targeted Overton in the 15th over, smashing three sixes and a four to take 26 runs in the over. David brought up his half-century in just 22 balls, showcasing his explosive stroke.
Tim David and Nikhil Chaudhary put together a vital 75-run stand for the fifth wicket to maintain the Hurricanes’ chase. Chaudhary contributed a steady 22 off 22 balls before departing but David made sure there was no mistake.
With just 11 runs needed from the last two overs, David hit Brendan Doggett for a six to ease the pressure, and Chris Jordan sealed the win with a boundary. David finished unbeaten with a massive 62 off just 28 balls, smashing six sixes and three fours, as the Hurricanes ended the game with eight balls to spare.
Earlier in the day, the Adelaide Strikers posted a competitive total of 186/5, thanks to valuable contributions from Chris Lynn and Alex Ross. Lynn’s quickfire 49 off 27 balls, laced with five fours and three sixes, gave the Strikers a flying start.
Ross played a vital role in the middle overs, scoring 47 off 29 balls. He shared a 64-run stand with Ollie Pope before falling to a brilliant catch from Mitchell Owen. Overton’s 27 not out off 18 deliveries ensured the Strikers finished strong, adding 41 runs in the last four overs.
