Newly re-elected House Speaker Mike Johnson is determined to push President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda forward as he outlines how the president-elect wants Congress to deal with the failure of reconciliation.
“I think in the end, President Trump would preferas he likes to say, one big, beautiful bill,” Johnson admitted to Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartirama.
The speaker added that he has had many conversations with the president-elect over the past few months trying to determine “the pros and cons of two different strategies,” one reconciliation bill or “a skinny reconciliation bill.”
“This (one reconciliation bill) has a big benefit because we can put it all together, one big yes or no vote that could literally save the country because there are so many elements to it,” Johnson said.

“It will give us a little more time to negotiate this and get it right,” he continued.
Johnson expressed this one reconciliation letter will “have many parts” and will address many of the issues Americans voiced during the election, such as border security and the economy.
to “revive the US economy“, Speaker Johnson stressed the importance of “preventing the largest tax increase in US history,” warning that it could happen automatically at the end of next year unless Congress gets its “ducks in a row.”
While important, tax cuts are not the only priority for the House GOP as they seek to help Trump get the economy back on track.
HOUSE VOTES ON RULES TO MAKE SPEAKERS HARDER
Johnson explained what Republicans want to “incentivize” American companies to manufacture in the United States, eliminate “regulatory burdens” and red tape that “stifle” the free market, root out the “deep state” and restore American energy dominance.
“So there’s a lot of moving parts, a lot of things to negotiate, a lot of opinions on all of this. So we’re going to be working long, long hours with the boards, making sure that every Republican is on board,” he said.
Although the speaker will be operating with the “lowest inventory in U.S. history” for the first hundred days, he is confident that Republicans will deliver for the American people.
When asked about a timeline for one reconciliation bill, Johnson said it could be on President Trump’s desk by May or at the latest by April 3 if everything moves in the “right sequence.”
“We made many pre-election promises. President Trump has done that too, and reconciliation is the way to get there,” he explained.
