Rohit Sharma’s Test career is facing serious questions after a string of underwhelming performances, leading cricket fans and pundits to wonder whether the Indian skipper still has what it takes in the longest format of the game after his low show on Australian soil.
After Rohit’s horrific run in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, former Australian opener Simon Katich has delivered a stark reality check, warning that England, with its difficult conditions, will not be the best place for the skipper Indian recover his loss. to touch
Katich pointed out that Rohit Sharma’s recent numbers are alarmingly low as he ended the 2024-25 season with just 164 runs in eight Tests at an average of just 10.93. His dismal run continued on the tour to Australia, where he managed just 31 runs in three matches before opting to rest for the fifth and final Test in Sydney, where India lost the match by six wickets.

Simon Katich was quoted by India Today as saying: “Only he knows if he’s hungry and drives 37 to get back in. England’s not going to be an easy series. England are on a roll. They’ve got some good young quicks. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are doing well.”
Katich has also raised doubts over Rohit Sharma’s future in Test cricket, especially with a challenging tour of England ahead. The cricket expert noted that at the age of 37, opening the batting in Test matches is difficult and stressed that only Rohit can decide whether he still has the drive for it.
The Australian added: “I daresay it will be a tough tour if he decides to go and the Indian selectors pick him, first of all. Those numbers don’t make for good reading. Test cricket is not a place for 37-year-olds years at the top of the order. History suggests so, and only Rohit Sharma knows if he has the hunger to continue.”
Rohit Sharma recently made it clear that he has no plans to retire from Tests anytime soon. The 37-year-old hit back at his critics by expressing confidence that his Test form will improve in the next five months. He had said: “Some person is sitting with a microphone, a laptop or a pen and writing things; our lives don’t change because of what this person is writing or saying.”

Reacting to Rohit’s statement, Simon Katich jokingly suggested that the Indian opener will have a great future as a comedian once he retires from the game because his sense of humor is so good.
Katich signed off by saying, “Well, if you look at the numbers, they’re damning. We’ve seen that in this test. It was very selfless of him to opt for the test. I saw in that interview, very well spoken. There’s no doubt that he’s got a future after he’s done playing cricket in comedy, because his humor was so good.”
