This article contains spoiler For Season 2 “Doctor Who”, Episode 7, “The Wish World.”
Early in “The Wish World,” we see the Doctor (NCTI Gatwa) and Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) looking up in Reverend Fear, and the camera reveals that their quiet residential street in London is surrounded by huge skeletal beasts and bone fort arriving towards the clouds. Soon, this strange fever dream turns out to be just that – a desire dreamed by the Conrad Clark’s eerie podcaster (Jonah Hauer-King) And come into existence from God’s wishes of infant, Desidirium. Somehow, though, even the combination of a particularly dangerous member of Pantheon of Discord and The Devious Villain of “Lucky Day” is not enough for the show’s antagonist game. Conversely, the two simply follow the larger plan of the De-Production Time Lady Rani (Archie Panjabi) and his other self, Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson). They are, in turn, on an attempt to release Gallifreyan even more terrible from the DanDationse: The Lord founded time called Omega.

However, the biggest mystery of the chapter has nothing to do with the doctor’s Rogues gallery and everything to do with his family tree. Season 2 “Doctor Who”, Chapter 6, called “The Interstellar Song Contest,” reintroducing the mysterious granddaughter of the doctor Susan in a series of tactically located visions. In “The Wish World,” she makes another Cameo on the TV screen before Rogue (Jonathan Groff) takes the lead … but the truly strange family blot line in the episode is that the Doctor and Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) have a very familiar daughter in the world wishes. Granted, the Rani insists that their child is not really, but the doctor seems to believe otherwise. This is what this latest time in the strange family family tree could mean.

After coming to his senses and diving towards the fast disappearing land at the end of the episode, the doctor specifically states that the young poppy (Sienna-robyn Mavanga-phipps) is actually his daughter … and in a way that is meaningful enough to cap hair riser from a cliff end-ending cliff end, too. This is an interesting development given that Poppy has last appeared in the “Doctor Who” “Space Babies” opener as one of the titular babies. Although the chapter does not mention blood relationship between her and the doctor, it is worth noting that the babies are short thinking that their parents are the Doctor and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).

This shared history may be what encourages the doctor to claim Poppy orally as her own-after all, she is a protector, and very young children who personally knows he knows falling within his clarity. However, there is some extra wonder concerning Poppy, and is too similar to the current mystery around Susan’s appearances to eliminate the possibility of spinning a family -themed plot. See, just like Susan, Poppy has turned up in mysterious circumstances before this particular chapter. In “Doctor Who” Season 2, Chapter 5, “The Story & the Engine,” Belinda sees her short in an alley in Lagos, but Poppy disappears before anything happens.
It does not seem like an accident that Poppy and a relationship confirmed to the doctor both begin to appear secretly in the period before the end of the season. As such, the end of the season may quite reveal that there is more to their poppy than meets the eye.

Due to the constant time of the doctor traveling (and the semi-second-second-second “Doctor Who” goes through after each revival), his family connections are impossible to complex and paradoxical. It has at least three official origin stories, for one. The first claims to be one of the 45 cousins of the Lord artificially created. The second one claims to have a normal father and mother, although there are various versions of their identity. The third and most recent was introduced during Chris Chibnall’s time as a showwrunner and reveals that the doctor is not a time Lord at all. Instead, it is strange and ancient known as the only everlasting child, and the closest thing he has to a relative is adoption mother, Tecteun (Seylan Baxter). For a sibling, the doctor has mentioned sisters and auxiliary material has included a brother named Irving Braxiatel (voiced by Miles Richardson) – but he has also said that none of his family members are alive.

Susan’s existence strongly suggests that the doctor has either been a parent or will be a parent. So far, though, the closest thing to a authentic child he has had on the show is Jenny (Georgia Moffett), a young girl who was artificially created from the doctor’s DNA in the 2008 episode “The Doctor’s Daughter.”
The fun and A frustrating thing about “Doctor Who” is that almost every plot development can turn out to be incredibly consequential or completely irrelevant – or even both at the same time. As such, it may be too early to start guessing where a poppy story line will lead … but as the doctor’s extremely messy family tree proves, there is always room for another branch.
Finishing Season 2 “Doctor Who” decreases May 31, 2025.
