Alexa Ray Joel offering heartbreaking support to her father Billy Joel Following the announcement it has been been diagnosed with a brain disorder.
“We love you and we got you, pop! I wanted to thank you all for the lovely pour of love and support in the middle of recent news about my father’s health diagnosis,” wrote Alexa Ray, 39, Instagram On Saturday, May 24. “My dad is the strongest and most resilient man I have ever known … and is fully committed to fully recovering with persistent physical therapy treatments as he continues to regain his strength.”
Alexa Ray quoted the 1993 classic song her father “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)” thanking his fans from around the world for their supportive social media messages.
“The authentic care, the empathy, and the concern from everyone means so much to him … it means a lot to me too,” he concluded. “’Someday we will all go / but nursery rhymes go on and on / they never die / that’s how you and I will.’ The music continues … ”

The singer “Piano Man”, 76, announced through Instagram on Friday, May 23, that he canceled “all the scheduled concerts” because he was diagnosed with a normal weight hydrocephalus (NPH).
NPH is a “brain disorder where excessive cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in brain ventricles, which are fluid -filled chambers,” according to the Alzheimer’s Society. “As brain ventricles expand with the excess CSF, they can disrupt and damage nearby brain tissue, leading to difficulty walking, problems with thought and reasoning, and losing bladder control.”
Billy’s team explained by Instagram that the NPH has caused “problems with hearing, vision and balance,” which affected other recent live performances. His doctors have now recommended that Billy should stop performing as he has “specific physical therapy.” (Joel last performed at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut in February.)

Billy added in his own statement, “I’m sorry to disappoint our audience. Thank you for understanding.”

Last summer, Billy brought his historic run from Madison Square Garden’s headline in New York City with his 150th lifetime performance at the venue. He performed his last residential show at Madison Square Garden on July 25, 2024, where Guns N ‘Roses Frontman joined him on stage Axl rose.
“Everyone in the world knows when you play the garden, it’s not just New York,” said Billy at the time. “Our audience, I want to thank them for coming to our shows for so long. It’s hard to end, even at 150 lifetime shows. I want to thank everyone for the wonderful thing that has happened here.”
