Jussie Smollett maintains his innocence in settling his civil legal proceedings arising from his alleged mock attack 2019.
“Over six years ago, after reporting that I had been jumped, city officials in Chicago convinced the public that I deliberately imposed an attack against myself. This fake narrative has left a stain on my character that he won’t soon disappear,” wrote Smollett, 42, in a Statement divided by Instagram On Friday, May 23. “These officers wanted my money and wanted to confront me for something I didn’t do. Today, it should be clear … they haven’t received either.”
He continued, “The decision to settle the civil legal case was not the hardest to do. After repeatedly refusing to pay the city, I was presented with an opportunity to make a charity gift in exchange for the case to be dismissed. Despite what happened politically, Chicago was home to hunger for 5 years and the people became too often.
The Empire Star went on to reveal that he had made a donation of $ 50,000 to the Future Center for the building’s brighter arts, a foundation that supports disadvantaged youth.

“This organization was my choice and I am comforted that there will be at least one winner of this experience,” he continued in the statement. Smollett also shared him donating an additional $ 10,000 to the Chicago torture Center for Justice “which provides resources to communities recovering from the violence of the Chicago Police Department.”
Chicago’s Truth Justice Center confirmed Instagram Post on Friday.
“This generous gift from Mr. Smollett is so meaningful and very effective as we celebrate and honor the 10th anniversary of the ordinance made to historic in Chicago,” read the post in part. “The 10th birthday offers us a moment of reflection on what is possible when we stand together and imagine a better future for our communities. A world that values healing and repair, instead of punishment and imprisonment.”
The post concluded, “Once again, we are so grateful to Mr Smollett and all donors who support this necessary work.”
Smollett reported that he had been a victim of alleged hate crime in January 2019, claiming that two men had been faced with racial and homophobic slugs before wrapping a rope around his neck and pouring bleach on it.
Police and city officials claimed, however, that the actor was behind false hate crimes, proceeding to accuse him of presenting a false report by the police and claiming to know his attackers, his brothers Inconvenience and Abimola Olydouve, and claimed to have been paid by Smollett to stage the attack. The city sued the actor for $ 130,000 relating to a police investigation into the alleged attack. Smolett denied the claims and contradicts.

Smollett was convicted of five charges of unruly felony behavior in December 2021 and sentenced to 150 days in prison and 30 months of trial in March 2022. Two years later, in November 2024, the Supreme Lys of Illinois led the conviction, citing prosecution issues.
In his statement on Saturday, Smollett held his innocence, writing, although he was “deported by the Supreme Lys of Illinois in a unanimous decision (N) and the civil case will now be dismissed, I am aware that he will not change everyone’s mind about me or the attack I experienced.”
“However, despite laborious and expensive efforts to punish me, I am innocent in the eyes of God and our criminal justice system,” the statement continued. “What I have to do now is move on. I will continue to create my art, passionately fighting for cases that I hold dear and defend my integrity and family name with truth.”
He finished by thanking his supporters over the years, saying that their “prayers and beliefs in me mean more than words can express them properly.”
