The former Porter and the former Kiran More Chief-Seller shared his reflections on the next Indian Test Captain before the five-game series against England. Kl Rahul most supported to lead the team in the longest format of the game, adding that Shubman Gill has not done it well at the test cricket.
India still has to name a new test captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement. Shubman Gill acted as Vice-Capitan during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, while Jasprit Bumrah directed the side in the absence of Rohit against Australia in Perth. Selectors are expected to announce the new captain on Saturday.
Speaking to Star Sports, Kiran was more concerned with the lack of long -term planning for the next Indian test captain. He added that Kl Rahul is the best option to take over by Rohit Sharma, quoting his experience. More stated that Gill has not yet been constantly proven in the test cricket.
Your daily dose of cricket!
“Suddenly, everyone has aroused and now they say,” Who will be the next captain? “They should have prepared us.
“Shubman Gill is a very talented and prominent player among the formats, but now I would not want to press this type of pressure. I would go with Kl Rahul, he is an experienced champion. I don’t want to do too much pressure on Shubman Gill. He has not done it yet to the tests, “he added.
Former Cricketer and former Saba Karim supported Gill as the best option to become the next Indian Test Captain. Karim said it is time to invest in a young and talented leader like Gill for the New World Championship cycle (WTC).
“Many times before that, you must have noticed, Tanay, once Mrs. Dhoni retired, the transition to Kohli was soft. Even before Mrs. Dhoni, we had Sourav Gangul.
“So there were always people ready. The Indian team has usually had a vice-chic for leading the leadership role. Because we enter a new WTC cycle, I would go with a young talented leader, that is, Shubman Gill. Although it should not yet be fully set on the test cricket.
Shubman Gill still has to be shown to India’s test team. It has marked 1,893 runs in 32 games with an average of 35.06, including five centuries. The Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, will finish the tests for the next tour of England, from June 20 in Headingley in Leeds.
Gill showed his leadership in the IPL with Gujarat Titans, but it is not yet known if this will translate to India in evidence. Above all, its record abroad has been puzzling.
The Punjab born cricket has an average of only 29.50 tests of 13 and only a century. He has played only three tests in England, marking 88 runs with a higher marker of 28.
