Swat Receiving a side effect after multiple cancellations should have been good news, but why the decision – and in particular Shemar Moore – face backlash for it?
The procedural faced his fair share of battles to stay on air since he was first in 2017. Six seasons were put out on CBS before Swat picked it up for a last seventh season and season. Ultimately, CBS reversed that decision and SWAT returned for season 8. But the celebration did not last long – the network cancel the show for the second time in March 2025.
SWAT appears to have expired two months later when the end of the series was broadcast on CBS. Days later Sony picked up Television Spinoff Pictures Swat Excenses which is set to Star Moore and New Swat unit.
The decision to overhaul the cast did not sit well with viewers who tuned week after week because of their favorite characters. Moore, though, defend the decision To keep his only character Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.
“No one likes to change. I understand that. I get it 100 percent. But without changing, you can’t grow. You can’t win without taking your lumps,” Moore explains in an Instagram video the same month. “It’s not easy to make in the game of Hollywood. It’s not. TV shows don’t last eight years now. The game has changed. But SWAT is deported, baby! Exiles Swat. More, more, more powerful. Swat on steroids.”
Moore compared the creative shaking with football play.
“I’m not saying I’m Tom Brady but I am Tom Brady Oh swat that’s not arrogant. That’s not ego. It’s a fact. I’m the quarterback. I’m Shemar Moore Aka Hondo, ”he continued.” But I had a squad. Strong cohort. Family. Team. And I would be disappointed if I didn’t say aloud to the world and to them – for I know they watch this – I love you. I respect you. I appreciate you. “
In spite of the argument, Moore Have remained hopeful about Swat Excenses.
“I’m excited that SWAT has to continue playing a ball. I’m excited that the crew have to put food on their table and money in their accounts, and go to practice ball -footing and put their children through the right ladders. Save jobs, work here in LA, keep Hollywood, keep this la a big deal,” he continued on Tuesday. “Yes, a little bitter in some ways – but man, at the end of the day, we had to be so proud. We had to be so proud because we did the damning thing. The world took attention. And the industry took attention.”
Moore concluded: “Shows are all -time canceled, but SWAT won’t die because you love Swat you all love that crazy action. You love the stories. You love the fraternity, the sisterhood, all. That’s who we are. That’s who we are. Always pay her.

However, social media users noted that Moore’s video only recognized Pepaj for the news. Everyone else shared pictures behind the scenes while celebrating the Swat Finishing series in CBS. Since then, he has been largely quiet from the rest of the cast as Moore celebrates his new project.
Why it is a big deal
Moore’s comments section overflow with questions About why no one else was announced for the spinoff. Moore broke his silence by defending the decision, saying, “That’s my family for life, right? But just like in sport, Tom Brady may be the quarterback, but people are traded. Tight heads are traded, the running back is traded, the recipients are traded.”
According to Moore, the priority was coming Swat Back – with him at the helm after he originated the series. “But the team is still pushing with their quarterback, and I’m that guy,” he said. “So glad, so grateful. I’m not going to apologize for free. Bushed my bin for 31 years to do what I’m doing, and I’m excited for the future.”

Swat Fans were quick to highlight in the Moore Post Comments section that made the rest of the cast from the show’s CBS series what it was. Most Moore Costars has not been publicly recognized in expanding the Swat Universe only.
Before news about Swat Excenses Broke, Ilonzeh spoke to Weekly US for their efforts as a group to regenerate the series.
“We cross our fingers. So a specific discussion is having. I hope I can say (soon) we really did it. We rallyed for the third time,” she divided in April 2025 while reflecting on her time playing a gamble. “But we make noise. They see it – interested producers and streams – they’re like, ‘Okay, this is something.’ So if we can plug and play, we’re all ready to go.
Ilonzeh acknowledged that if Swat She was brought back againThe final battle of the show would be to stay on the air.
“I was just talking to (my costar) Shemar (Moore) yesterday and it was, ‘If I did this for the third time – whenever we are canceled again – I’ll be fine with it. I don’t fight for a fourth (time) because we actually did it and we finished on that,’” he noted. “We will finish on the fighting and victory and delight in all this and squeeze the life out of it. We will know we have done it, we did our work and we can walk happy campers away.”
What’s next
Sony Pictures TV picked up Swat Exile For a 10 chapter order But no official premiere is yet designed. According to the press release, Sony is “focusing on finding the right homes and partners for these new stories to reach the passionate Swat Fanbase and attract new viewers. ”Development is currently underway and the production is expected to start in the summer of 2025 in Los Angeles and once the side effect is filmed, it will be shopped around.
