Promoter Eddie Hearn says that Shakur Stevenson’s profile has increased since he signed with Matchroom last year, saying he has had “great fights” with them. He hopes that Stevenson (23-0, 11 kos) will shine in his WBC light belt defense against William Zepeda (33-0, 27 kos) on July 12 in New York.
Stevenson has to look like gold in this struggle because he wants to fight Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. If you are on your bike all night, Tank wants nothing to do with him. Will not want to pursue Shakur around the ring.
“I think in the short time we have been working together, he has had great fights, he has made great money and his profile has continued to increase,” said promoter Eddie Hearn in Brian Campbell’s YouTube Canal, speaking of Shakur Stevenson.
For the record, Shakur has it fought only once Ever since he signed a two -struggling contract with Hearn’s Matchroom’s company in August 2024. This struggle was against Josh Padley this year on February 22. When Hearn says that Shakur has had “great fights” since he signed with him, he is a bit out. The electrician, Padley, was Stevenson’s first struggle for his two struggles, and William Zepeda will be his second on July 12.
Shakur’s profile has declined more since he arrived on board Matchroom, because he chose to fight Padley as a replacement rival after Floyd Schofield retired from his fight last February. Stevenson was a nonsense to accept the idea of using Padley as a replacement rival.
These were the three options for the replacement of Shakur.
“I think this struggle is the perfect struggle to prove how great he is (Shakur). Zepeda is a tremendous fighter. I only feel that the style is really suitable for him to entertain and show his class,” said Hearn about Stevenson.
Zepeda’s style is bad for Shakur, who will have no choice but to run for 12 rounds so that he has a shot to win. He will not be able to fight and fight because Zepeda is offensive to him.
This struggle will probably be similar to how Shakur fought against Edwin de los Santos, with him run around the ring for 12 rounds. The criticism Devin Haney did for his timid performance against Jose Ramírez on May 2 will be nothing compared to the way fans will be launched in Stevenson.
