Rob Gronkowski has tackled one of the wildest rumors for his former -a controversial team Aaron Hernandez.
During Tuesday, May 20, appearance on the “Bussin ‘with the boys” A podcast, Gronkowski, 36, asked for a former NFL offshore liner Taylor lean For a story that Hernandez “in the team meeting room would beat away and do crazy s ***.”
“That’s the possibility, that one,” said Gronkowski with awkward laughter.
He added, “I may have seen him alive or not. I’m not going to confirm or deny.”
Gronkowski and Hernandez were both tight ends on the New England Patriots between 2010 and 2012.
“I love crazy s ***, though,” added Gronkowski, “I didn’t mind things like that. I was like, ‘Wow, that was pretty epic.’ I was a wild man.
In April 2015, Hernandez was convicted of murder in the first degree killing his friend in 2013 Odin Lloyd.
Two years later, Hernandez died by suicide in his prison cell at the Souza-Baranowski corrective center in Lancaster, Massachusetts. He was 27 years old.
“I didn’t see him going to the level she went to,” said Gronkowski for Hernandez’s troubles. “I didn’t see that happening. That was surprising. It was surprising to everyone because you would never expect anyone, especially in that situation, to get it to the level it went to.”
Gronkowski continued, “I didn’t know it was that bad. I knew there were definitely some wild sides.”
The story of Hernandez was the subject of the Netflix 2020 documentary, Kill inside: thinking Aaron Hernandezand a dramatic fx series American sports story in September 2024.
Gronkowski argued that Hernandez’s media representations were a mixed bag.
“With everything coming out, there are some that I would say is the case in the coming out documentaries,” he explained. “There are probably some who have exaggerated a little. But there are some who have not exaggerated at all, either.”
Gronkowski and Hernandez were selected in the 2010 NFL draft draft, and Gronkowski remembered the ability of a hernandez football during their rookie season.
“That guy knew the plays inside and out, the running and passing game, like the first two weeks of being in New England” said Gronwkowski. “I struggled with him all the way until a week 8.”
Gronkowski added, “It is unfortunate what happened because the talent is a bit throughout the roof, man.”
