According to a new report in the summer peak season, one of the sectors most sensitive to fraud, and the scams increased by 18% and 28% in the winter peak season in 2024.
A report published last Tuesday by the MasterCard Economics Institute shows that fraud related to travel agencies and travel companies is more than four times higher than the average for fraud of other industries.
“After payment, the excursion may either never happen or beyond what was promised,” the statement said.
However, the risk of scam is much different from the city to the city, said David Mann, Chief Economist of the Asia-Pacific Department of the MasterCard Institute.
“In certain directions you can see much more fraud that goes from trips and tourist campaign. In other cities, it may even be in things like food services. Thus, a good example, in the Los -Andesles, (food) is the biggest part where we see some fraud,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he saidA boxed box as Asia“Friday.
According to MasterCard, tourists reported the lowest score in:
However travelers in these cities reported a higher level of fraud:
The type of scams usually reported in the cities also vary, and the problems with the taxi and cars make up only 2% of registered fraud cases in Hong Kong and Barcelona, but 66% in Jakarta, Indonesia, shown in the report.
Food fraud is more visible in the US and the Middle East, which is 63% of the registered cases in New York, showed it showed. These include restaurants that redo food, add unauthorized tips or stealing travelers’ credit card data, MasterCard spokesman reports.
Outside the peak seasons, travel fraud is also increased during the reservation stage, MAN said.
Last year, the report notes that traveling fraud grew by more than 12%, whether it would be through photography doctors, malicious “confirmation” links that expose bank data or other forms of tricks.
Travelers should monitor the unusually low prices and summer tariffs that are “too good to be true”, especially in popular tourist destinations that attract a large crowd, the report notes.
To protect themselves from fraudulent activity, travelers can adjust digital wallets, buy travel insurance or book trips using a credit card with fraud protection.
