Comparing two former world champions, Rocky ‘Brockton Blockbuster’ Marciano and Larry ‘The Easton Murdin’ Holmes. Marciano finished his career in September 1955 in his sixth and final defense at the Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York, improving his record at 49-0 with 43 knockouts.
Its opponent was the lightweight heavy champion Archie ‘Old Mongoose’ Moore, 149-19-8 with 121 knockouts. Marciano left the canvas in the second round for a 2 count of referee Harry Kessler.
Moore was officially assassinated after 4 times, twice at the sixth, once in the eighth, and counted on the ninth at 1:19 of the round.
Marciano’s record would be matched by the Super Brian Nielsen in Denmark, stopping former Tim Witherspoon, 46-8, in four rounds in April 1999. This was 43 years old since Marciano retired. In his next struggle he lost to Dicky Ryan, 47-4, in the tenth round.
In September 1985, the former 1976 Olympic Gold Medal and the current lightweight heavy weight champion, Michael ‘Jinx’ Sparks, 27-0, defeated the heavy heavy weight champion Larry ‘The Easton Murdin’ Holmes, 48-0, at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, Outdoor Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. The scores were 143-142 twice and 145-142. Spinks winning the fortnight and the final round won the title.
After the combination, Holmes emphasized, “Marciano couldn’t bring my gossip!” Some called it a racist comment. Why did Holmes not give to Spinks, who defeated him, did he proved for this as a great mistake on his part? It was disappointed that Marciano’s 49-0 record that Nielson had coincided did not match.
Holmes, 65-5, lost to Nielsen, 31-0, in January 1997 by a decision divided into Denmark. Holmes finished his career at 69-6 with 44 knockouts.
When comparing the style of hard hitting Martiano at 5:10 ½ with the Holmes boxing style at 6:03, you must remember that Marciano would be baptized in his arms for 5 or 6 rounds until you realized as a rival that you had trouble keeping them.
Holmes, meanwhile, had a very effective fist. Most of the time he retained it, rarely warned by the referee who was not legal.
The shortest Martian style would occur in the right hand hand with the right hand. Would he stand under his dagger and land his upper right hand side of Holmes elbow, possibly injuring him?
Would Holmes Jab be opened on Martian’s face on the way the former champion Ezzard ‘The Cincinnati Copra’ Charles did before Martiano stopped him in the next round?
Both Marciano and Holmes are usually in the second half of the top ten of all time.
We listen to your comments on who would win between Marciano and Holmes at the first place of his career.
