Volodimir Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine would send a delegation led by the Minister of Defense to meet with Russian officials in Istanbul for peace talks, but accused Russia of not serious.
Speaking to the journalists in Ankara, he criticized the low -level mass delegation. Its leader, Assistant to the President Vladimir Medinsky, insisted that the Kremlin team had “all the necessary competences”.
Later, on Thursday, US chief chief diplomat Mark Rubio claimed that Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had to meet.
“This is my assessment that I don’t think we will have a breakthrough until President Trump and President Putin interact directly on this topic,” he said.
Rubio is also in Turkey after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in the south.
Earlier that day, Trump, which visits the Middle East, also suggested that significant progress in peace talks was unlikely until he met Putin personally.
