Comedy shows have been revived on streaming after falling in favor of network TV. But Watch with us‘Choosing for the Comedy Show is not just a typical comedy you need to watch in May. It’s a throw back to some of an hour -long lighter TV shows from the ’70s and’ 80s.
Knives out director Rian Johnson create the Peacock Original Series Poker face as a starred vehicle for Natasha Lyonne.
Lyonne plays Charlie Cale, a fleeing woman from town to town as she finds herself drawn into the mysteries of murder in each chapter.
Poker face manages to take that preset and add humor to it without losing the poles of life and death of the murders or slipping to a farce. It is a delicate balancing act, but the ability of the series to combine comedic moments, drama and mystery is one of the reasons why Poker face is the one comedy show you need to watch in May, especially now that the second season is streaming.

Poker face He is not just comedy, and has his dramatic moments. People are killed on this show, after all. But a throw back tone all comes down to Lyonne’s performance as Charlie Cale. Lyonne seems to slip effortlessly into Charlie’s persona as an unusually charming woman who has a gift that makes her special. Somehow, Charlie can always tell if someone is lied to her.
More often than not, Charlie uses that talent to find out who recently killed someone she met. There appear to be dozens of network procedural crime shows that deal with murder investigations, but none of those series can make us laugh like Antics and Charlie’s responses when she smokes murderer.
Charlie’s other gift is that she really cares about other people. Without that compassion, Charlie could skip the town without solving any of these murders. Charlie has no legal authority, but she undertakes moral authority to see that justice is done. Lyonne takes a specialist comic charm and timing, and makes Charlie an immediate memorable character you want to keep watching him week after week.

By Poker face Technically a mysterious series, it’s not whodunit. The murderer’s identity is revealed near the beginning of the chapter. That’s a great example of inverted mystery, popularized by the classical TV series Columbo. Like that show, Poker faceA mystery is not built around murder resolution, it is about whether Charlie will capture and expose the murderer.
Lyonne’s character is compared to Peter FalkInspector of Columbo because they are both underestimated by the murderers they follow. If Charlie had the time and trend, it would be a pretty great detective. But unlike Columbo, Charlie can’t rely on a badge to get her answers. She has to be smarter about it.

Because Poker faceFormat requires Charlie to progress constantly from place to place, it allows several established actors to have once and for all hotel appearances as either victims, murderers or innocent viewers.
It also gives the guest stars the opportunity to flex their acting muscles. In the season 2 premiere, ERIVO Portrays the sisters Kazinsky, although sharing the exact number of sisters may be a spoiler. Among the other familiar faces leaking by this season is Giancarlo Esposito. Katie Holmes. Kumail Nanjiani. John for. Corey Hawkins. Alia shawkat. John Mulay. Awkawfina. Jason Ritter and David Alan Grier. That’s a cast to die for, and some of their characters will die!

The reason why Charlie is always set up in the first chapter of the series. She was a casino worker who revealed the illegal activities of her manager, Sterling Frost Jr. (Adrien brody), which ended dead thereafter. Father Sterling, Sterling Frost Sr. (Ron perlman), blame Charlie for his son’s demise and send Cliff Legrand (Steep benjamin) After her.
That plot was solved in the season 1 finale, which then began a new story where Charlie made an enemy out of Sterling’s opponent, Beatrix Hasp (Rhea perlman). HASP offered Charlie a choice to either work for or die. In response, Charlie decided to run. If the rest of season 2 follows the pattern identified in season 1 then that story will be touched throughout the season before ending in the term 2 finale. Assuming that Poker face will be renewed for season 3We are curious how the show will keep it on the road for the next batch of episodes.
