Halle Berry was one of the stars directly affected by the Cannes Film FestivalNew dress code.
“I had an amazing dress from Gupta that I can’t wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” Berry said for her search for an opening night during the Cannes Jury press conference on Tuesday, May 13, the one Diversity. “I’m not going to break the rules.”
Berry wore a black-and-white striped halter dress for the event’s opening night gala. She is a member of the Cannes jury, which also includes Succession star Jeremy Strong. Arriving in the other day, Berry was wearing a charcoal jacket and a skirt ensemble.
“The naked part is also a good rule,” said Berry about the festival’s decision to ban naked or almost naked dresses.
The day before, the festival made headlines for his new restrictions on what stars can wear for the red carpet of the event. One of the big changes was the festival banning naked dresses, a trend that has recently been taken red carpets by a storm.

“Nakedness is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other part of the festival,” read the guidelines, noting “Reasons of decency.”
As well as banning naked dresses, Cannes also puts restrictions on excessive train clothing.
“Bulky costumes, especially those with a large train, are not allowed to block the right flow of guest traffic and complicate seats in the theater,” noted the new rule.
Although a number of clothing styles have been limited, the official Cannes website offered a series of tips for what men and women could wear. Cannes requires his guests to dress in evening dressing. Women could choose “a small black dress, a cocktail dress, a dark colored pantsuit, a black pants dress top,” while men can choose “black or navy suit with a bow tying or a dark color tie.”
In addition to the clothes themselves, there are also Restrictions on shoes. Guests have to wear “elegant shoes and sandals with or without a heel,” which means sneakers are banned too.
Cannes warned that those who break the new rules will not be able to attend the red carpet.
“Teams will be required to welcome the festival to ban red carpet access to anyone who does not respect these rules,” read the statement, noting “for all other screenings, very outfit is sufficient.”
