President Donald Trump Arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for his first major foreign trip after reset, hoping to provide serious trades on trade and diplomatic breakthroughs in the Middle East.
The president may have an unexpected and eager partner in the new president of Syria, who can offer him a huge diplomatic victory.
“This is a historical opportunity, and it would be a shame if the US lost it,” said Fox News Natasha Hall, a senior Middle East program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
President Trump seems to be open to new relationships with Syria, including the possibility of lifting the sanctions imposed under the previous Bashar al -Assad mode.

“We can remove them from Syria because we want to give them a new beginning,” President Trump told reporters in the oval office on Monday.
The president added that “we want to find out if we can help them” and that at some point a decision on Syria’s sanctions will be made.
“Syria now has the authorities for the first time in power, which not only does not depend on Iran to survive, but also very hostile to Iran, and it will be a great opportunity, lost if the US does not rise,” the Hall added.

Muaz Mustafa, Executive Director of the Syrian Emergency Group, non-profit, which helps to attract democracy in Syria, recently met with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaha in Damascus.
Moustafa exclusively told Fox News Digital that they were talking more than three hours about a potential breakthrough in American Syrian relationshipsWhich have been torn since 2011 after the start of the Syria Civil War, which led to the deaths of more than 500,000 people.
Mustafa and others are pushing for a meeting between Al-Sharaa and President Trump during a visit to the Gulf this week. For the new government in Syria, this will be their opportunity to convince the new administration to run a business with a country that leaves a devastating 14-year civil war and corrected a link with a leader who was once agreed with the Islamic State and al-Qaeda.
“Syria’s goals are quite clear why they would like to meet President Trump in Saudi Arabia to take a step on some of these major cooperation issues and facilitate any of the problems that the White House may have. And some things they tried to do is show that they may be cooperating on intelligence issues, and said
Others call on cautiously. “Now Sharaa does not restrict political and civil liberties, but it is essentially an authoriter.” Former US Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford told Fox News Digital.
Ford, who was the last US ambassador to Damascus, was pulled out of the embassy in October 2011 after Syrian uprising turned into violent. Ford led the effort to put al-Shara on the terrorist list in 2012 and said that although he is pragmatic, he was leading an extremely weak government.
“It does not yet control all Syria. The government in Damascus, which it leads, is not very strong, and it will take time to restore all its powers over Syria,” Ford said.
Ford does not believe that al-Sharaa will continue terrorism, as in the past, but while the power has been a promising event, the US should keep its expectations relatively low.
“Syria is so weak, military and economically, with a lot of internal political divisions. Thus, this will not be able to sign huge agreements with the US,” Ford warned.
A high official at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Digital Fox News that Al-Sharao’s president emphasized that the new free Syria is seeking strong strategic relations with the United States, based on mutual interests and a joint partnership. “

A high official added that “Damascus sees US President Donald Trump as a leader who is most capable of reaching peace in the Middle East,” Syria hopes to become an active and influential ally in Washington on regional issues.
Mustafa also met with members of the National Security Council and conveyed the president’s desire for the new partnership.
The National Security Council did not immediately respond to the Fox News digital request for comment.
The new Syrian leader has already demonstrated readiness to cooperate on some key issues important for the United States. The new Syrian government cooperated with the US intelligence services and thwarted several ISIS stories to attack Damascus. Syrian special services also arrested Commander isis Abu al-Christ al-Iraqi in February.

Mustafa also stated that al-Sharaa was worried about the large-scale extension of the militias supported by Iran, along the Iraqi sides of the Syrian border. According to him, this is worried about the Trump administration because he wanted to restore with Iran to stop his nuclear program.
In the eyes of Al-Sharaa, the transaction of the century brought peace to Syria and its neighbors, including Israel. Mustafa added that the transaction would keep China, Russia and Iran and allow us to go home properly.
However, critics warn that the potential transaction with the United States does not do without its obstacles.

HTS is still an appointed foreign terrorist organization that complicates business management in Syria.
“There is no question whether it is worth believing that changing behavior after the fall of the regime is translated into a more constant change in character, ideology and management,” said Caroline Rose, director of the Institute of New Lines, Fox News Digital.

Rose, who recently traveled to Syria, noted that while HTS is gradually breaking away from belonging to terrorist organizations and over time has taken some moderate elements, there is still doubts that it will “follow”, especially with recent sectarian tensions.
“Skeptics of lifting restrictions on Syria are immediately afraid that any step can be too premature and can risk the US authority among its regional colleagues,” Rose added.
Ever since becoming president, al-Sharao has formed a transitional government consisting of close allies with HTS Rebel Group And the combination of technocrat, former opposition leaders, civil society activists and even some former Assad government.
The Provisional Constitution, signed by Al-Sharaa in March, guarantees basic freedoms such as freedom of opinion, expression and press. It also protects women’s rights and promises equal rights for all Syrians, regardless of ethnicity, religious sect or gender, but still leaves the country Under the rule of Islam during the transitional process.
There are still some problems about the authorities concentrated in the hands of the president. The president can unilaterally declare a state of emergency and suspend fundamental rights if national security threatens.
