“I am constantly refusing to go abroad,” Chieng said. “I have no interest in it because I came from there. I tried to come here … Therefore, it makes sense to get citizenship because when I leave the country, I know I can go back to the things I will be here.”
Chieng told Variety that the type of things that attracted him to America were “to return to the future” and “Seinfeld” rather than “war in Iraq.”
