The saints claim an impressive point as Haaland lasts the frustrating return

Manchester City’s push to secure champions league football for next season suffered a very surprising setback, as they remained at a 0-0 draw by Southampton Relegated.

City had the opportunity to move to the second place to the Premier League with a victory over the side sentenced to finish the season’s fund.

However, they crushed their lines despite the long -awaited return of Erling Haaland from an ankle injury, Southampton kept the first clean sheet since December.

It means that the city loses the possibility of passing six points from the sixth place of Nottingham Forest in the race for the Champions League places. The top five will qualify for the Champions League, but City will be jumped at the table if there is a winner in the Sunday game between Newcastle United and Chelsea in St James Park.

Southampton against Manchester City

Haaland was restored in the initial 11th as one of the five changes made by Pep Guardiola of last week’s victory over the wolves, but his side struggled to make much of his predictable domain of possession.

His best opportunity in half of the opening came when Kevin de Bruyne fell free from the edge of the area closely over the crossbar.

The opportunities were not easily to begin the second half despite the introduction of Jeremy Doku on the left flank, although Southampton’s defense became more and more desperate, as the city turned the screw in search of a decisive goal.

Haaland could not connect twice with Phil Foden’s deliveries, as the Norwegian supported a frustrating afternoon, and when the city was able to try Aaron Ramsdale, they found the goalkeeper of Southampton in a good way.

Ramsdale showed great reflexes to deny Manuel Akanji of Bruyne’s ball, before Savinho and Nico O’reilly were each of his lines with the goal after the square passage of Haaland.

Savinho and Ruben Dias were frustrated by a double savings by Ramsdale, with Marmoush the next to experience frustration, as his effort was erased in a comeback in the six -gardens box.

The Egyptian was the man who was closer to breaking Southampton’s impressive resistance when he stormed an effort against the 91st minute crossbar with Ramsdale Bathed, with once next to Southampton as they remained firm to claim a point that means that they surpass the record of Derby County for the few points of the Premier League in a season.

Southampton now has 12 points, one more than Derby managed in 2007-08, but it is a dead point that could have much larger consequences at the other end of the table in two weeks.
