New York police arrested dozens of pro-Palestinian participants of the rally after they occupied part of the Main Library of Colombian University.
Two university staff were injured when the participants of the rally made their way to the Batler Library on Wednesday, a statement from the university’s president, who called the actions of the activists “flamboyrs”.
The video posted in the social media shows that the protesters who are part of the library, many of Keffiyeh, which are not banned by Trump administration, which was imposed after broad campus demonstrations last year.
US Secretary of State Mark Rubio said the visa status of the participants would be considered.
More than 70 participants of the rally were reportedly arrested. No one is accused yet, and the authorities have given details of who holds and whether they are in the US on visas.
The participants of the rally accused the university of “severe repression” in social media and said they refused to show their certificates of police and campus.
Rubio called the group “offenders and vandals”. He added that “Bandites is no longer welcomed in our great nation”, which repeats Trump’s justification for the recent repression on Palestinian protests on the campus.
As well as focus on famous persons – withdrawing hundreds of international student visas and threatening deportations – Trump’s team also made a direct direction at universities of the US top -level universities, such as Colombia, which he accuses he is not fighting anti -Semitism in the campus.
A video of the latest actions in the prestigious New York institution showed that the participants of the rally, which were heard on the bookshelves, writing “Free Palestine”.
Another clip showed that public security officers block the out door of the library and ask those who show their Colombian ID or arrest inside, which led to many years of confrontation.
Claire Shipman, President of Colombia, said the New York Police Department (NYPD) was asked on Wednesday, adding that many participants of the participants of the latest actions were not students.
“At the direct request of the Colombian University, NYPD responds to a permanent situation on the campus where people occupied the library and violate,” the police confirmed in the report on X.
Ms Shipman said that while the protest was isolated in one room in the library, “it is completely unacceptable that some people choose a violation of academic measures when our students study and prepare for final exams.”
The President of Colombia, who took role in March after her predecessor resigned, asked the students to stay away from the library.
“We will not tolerate hatred and violence in any form of our city,” said New York Eric Adams Mayor in a message on X.
It is first noted that the Colombian University called NYPD for protest on campus since April 2024, when the participants of the rally occupied Hamilton Hall for almost 24 hours.
Colombia has attracted a specific anger from Trump, which claims that many universities endured anti -Semitism and persecution of Jewish students.
The president has already threatened to abandon about 400 million dollars (309 million pounds) in the federal funding of Colombia, as its administration continues to threaten those involved in previous protests on the campus with deportation.
In March, Colombia agreed with several requirements of the Trump administration, including a ban on masks on the face and changing the supervision of some academic programs, after the administration said it plans to abandon millions of federal funds.
It is unclear whether the funds will be restored, although some teachers have been filed in a cut.
Colombia was an epicenter of last year’s protest against the US gas and support in Israel. But this is not the only institution that the US government has targeted.
The administration warned 60 universities that funding could be abolished if anti -Semitism charges are not resolved.
On Tuesday, Trump also stopped $ 2.2 billion in taxpayers at Harvard University after ordering his federal financing. The university refused to abandon Trump’s demands.
