Last week, air traffic controllers at Newark Liberty Controlly lost communication with planes, “unable to see, hear and talk to them last week, said a union secretary.
On April 28, the incident led to many employees posted on vaccination of injuries, which contributes to hundreds of delay or distracted flights. More than 150 flights were canceled on Monday alone, Flightaaware’s website reports.
The airport, one of the busiest New York centers, has been fighting with staff’s lack of more than a week.
The Federal Aviation Administration acknowledged that “our ancient air traffic control system touches on our labor.”
Confirming that the controllers took a vacation after the incident, FAA said it could “not replace them soon”.
“We continue to train controllers who will eventually be assigned to this busy air space,” the statement said.
The air traffic management operations at the airport were criticized.
Last week, United Airlines announced that it canceled 35 flights a day from its Newark schedule because the airport “cannot handle the number of planes planned to work there.”
“In the last few days, more than once, the technologies for which the FAA air traffic controls are counted to manage the aircraft coming and leaving Newark, which failed – with dozens of distractions, hundreds of delay and canceled flights,” said the CEO of the United States.
He also said that the problems were “composed” because more than 20% of FAA controllers “went from work”.
The National Air Movement Controllers stated that employees had taken a vacation in accordance with the workers who experience a traumatic event at work.
The union would not say how many controllers were taken away, or how long they lost contact with the planes.
Last week, the Newark incident occurred when the US Transport Ministry presented a package designed to increase the number of FAA air traffic controllers.
“The package will allow the best and more vivid candidates to get into the objects of the air traffic and work faster, as well as increase the conservation of experienced controllers,” the FAA said.
The Department of Transport said this year was on the way to hire at least 2000 controllers.
In February, Trump administration started firing with hundreds of FAA employeesA few weeks after a deadly medium -air collision in Washington.
The agency said it would continue to hire on board air traffic controllers and security professionals.
