Jamie Carragher believes that Trent Alexander-Arnold has chosen to be Liverpool’s rival after announcing that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold has confirmed what was expected widely this morningHe will leave the club when his contract expires in June, with Real Madrid his most likely destination as he tries to take the next step of his career.
Liverpool fans have reacted negatively before his decision with Carragher, summarizing the feelings of many by predicting that the 26 -year -old will receive a hostile reception if he returns to Merseyside with Madrid.
Writing to The Telegraph, Liverpool’s former defender said, “I love to see a boy born in Liverpool doing so well that he will play Real Madrid.

Trent legacy now dirty, says Carragher
Alexander-Arnold has helped Liverpool two Premier League crowns and a success of the Champions League after joining the club as a six-year-old boy.
But Carragher believes that his legacy will now be dirty in the eyes of many Reds fans.
He added: “What is won in the short term can be sacrificed in terms of a legacy after completing his career, and although it may seem like a cliché to say that he is part of a family once you are loved by the largest and most stored club fans.
“There are many examples of really older players who gave stellar service everywhere they went, but they no longer feel stuck to anyone. It is not necessarily correct or fair.
“It is as it is, because supporters differ from those who are perceived that they put the club first in the continuous struggle to assume the superpower of Real Madrid and those who were accused of thinking about their own career.”
Don’t tell Liverpool fans how to think
Many non-Liverpool fans are surprised by Alexander-Arnold’s IRA levels, but Carragher says he understands where the kopites come from.
He said: “ Real are one of the only two clubs that have won the most cups of Europe than Liverpool, so that when a first-class academic player makes these types of movements, there is a resentment attenuating from the fanatics base who are trying to separate from “ their own ”, or they believe that there is something greater or better for them.
“It can be called so unfair, naive or even deceiving everything you like. When trying to explain what it is like, people jump about me and tell me that it is wrong to think so, and Alexander-Arnold should be desired in their new adventure.
“Liverpool fans are told that their reaction to Alexander-Arnold’s departure is emotional more than sensitive. My response to this is who is really naive and cheated when analyzing how fans feel for these transfers?”
