Jinn’s Qui-Gon Death The Phantom Menace truly shocking, giving the lives of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on what would eventually be a fatal collision course. Still, many fans see his death as a police will … something that had to happen to tackle the palpatine empire eventually. But the truth is that Qui-Gon simply sealed his own fate by stopping the troops on Naboo from attacking Darth Maul.
Everyone remembers the scene where Maul is revealed, and Qui-Gon tells the troops to stand down because he and Obi-Wan will “treat this.” It’s a favorite fan moment that precedes the duel light three -way lights far the best part of The Phantom Menace. But thanks to command events 66, we know if Qui-Gon could come over his pride and order Naboo troops to fire on MaulHe could almost certainly have stopped his death.
When The Phantom Menace After coming out, Qui-Gon rejected those troops making sense … after all, what could regular troops do against the dark Lord of the Sith? But in The vengeance of the SithWe see how effective the clone troops were in killing Jedi because even the most talented space wizards can only challenge so many blasts. Qui-Gon Jinn had no less than 18 soldier At his command, and if he commanded them to fire on Maul’s Darth, the Sith could be defeated and the Jedi death.
Qui-Gon may simply try to protect lives and worry that Maul would have broken through those troops as hot lights through butter. But his choice is still irresponsible because Sith is a major existential threat to everyone on the planet and, quite possible, everyone in the galaxy. If Qui-Gon Jinn wanted to prevent as many deaths as possible, he should have been prepared to sacrifice the lives of the soldiers rather than a gamble that he and Obi-Wan would be enough to prevent this new threat.
And he were Gambling: The Sith to Outfox and eventually killed the Master Jedi, and it was a miracle that wandered Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi able to defeat Darth Maul. If Qui-Gon Jinn accepted the offer of military aid, he would have done more than stopped his own death … he would have stacked the odd against the first Sith the Jedi encountered A thousand years. And given that Jedi Train with laser firing remotes, the Master Jedi should have known that it would be impossible for Maul to challenge 18 blasters firing to it all at once.
Qui-Gon Jinn may have been a wise and powerful Jedi, but the sad truth is that his death was caused by his own pride. He had a small army at his order that was ready and was able to undertake Darth Maul, and we know from order events 66 that even the most skilled power users cannot challenge a ton of directed laser fire. Fortunately, Qui-Gon’s death had one upside down: Poor Liam Neeson didn’t have to look like he cared when sending goblerygook lines about Midichlors between boring scenes with a CGI space rabbit.
