How Battlestar Galactica created the most wonderful romance of the show

In Battlestar GalacticaPerhaps no relationship was more surprising than a relationship between Apollo and Dualla (better known simply as “Dee”). Early, the show suggested that Apollo and Starbuck were supposed to be together, which made it much more surprising when Apollo and Dee married. Fans have often wondered how these characters came together in the first place, and derives mainly from Showrunner Ronald D. Moore impressing the dynamics of the characters in the season 2 episode of “Resistance.”

Now, Apollo and Dee have little interaction in this chapter … they talk for a little earlier in the chapter while he is jailed at the top, and later she helps her and President Roslin to escape custody. For the casual viewer, there are not many suggestions here that these two characters are likely to come together. However, the writers included a very small moment where Dee looks down on Apollo when he leaves a scene, which was supposed to suggest romantic developments in the future between these two characters.

Of course, Battlestar Galactica Stunning about suggesting things that they haven’t ended… Heck, Moore later admitted that even the famous “they have a plan” of the show’s opening credits is a lie because it does a lot of this as it goes on. Why, then, did this short, non-verbal interaction between Apollo and Dee to the two characters later married? In a later podcast commentary, the Showrunner said he simply enjoyed seeing their dynamic “resistance” and wanted to develop their relationship further.

What developed was interesting, but remained one of the most confusing romantic relationships in the whole show. They go on a “sacrifice,” date and later visit Apollo in Sickbay where he gets better after some friendly fire courtesy of Starbuck. Speaking of which ones, Starbuck has a crushed expression on her face when she sees Apollo and Dee in the sick, heavily suggesting that she has the hots for him and that she is sad to see him with another woman.

Early, Apollo and Dee try to keep their relationship sensibly, but it’s anything but sensible when he cheats on Dee by having sex with Starbuck. The following day, Starbuck is Eloping with Anders, causing Apollo to offer Dee. They get married, but this does not keep Apollo and Starbuck from having a later relationship.

Oddly enough, it is not the issues that cause these two to break up … instead, Dee separates from Apollo after he defended Gaius Baltar when the crazy scientist is on trial for crimes against humanity. They go their ways apart but maintain a happy relationship, one that made us wonder if they would all find love again. That never happened to Dee, however, who killed himself stunningly after finding the planet Earth nothing but a devastating ball of dust.

Dee’s death, like her relationship with Apollo, seemed to come out of nowhere, leaving fans to argue why these two characters came together in the first place. Interestingly, the whole relationship is derived from shower Ronald D. Moore likes their back in “resistance.” Moore himself seems to be a little similar to the colors after all … he might not have a plan for these characters all over, but created a whole -based story based only on their chemistry in one chapter.
