Dave Portnoy Not happy after noticing an antisemitic sign in a Philadelphia branch of his barstool bar.
Portnoy, 48, Share a video He described a “emergency press conference” through X and Instagram on Sunday, May 4, after an enlightened sign seen, “F— the Jews” seen being held by a waitress at the bar.
“Usually a great bar. You know, a bottle service, people buy drinks, you get a sign. There was a sign yesterday who said, ‘f— the Jews,'” Portnoy, who is Jewish, explained. “I’ve been shaking. I’ve been so crazy for the last two hours. As I went on immediately, this is why the emergency press conference is late, because I was so over the top.”
“I’m gonna f – ing it is a mission f – ing a mission to ruin these people. Like, I’m coming around your neck. I never end,” he continued. Portnoy also said he was “hunting down” the waitress who held the registration.
In a second video, Portnoy said that two waitresses held the register were fired and one described as “one of the quietest human beings I’ve ever spoken to in my life.” He also said he contacted one of the students who posted the video and then deleted it.
The person in the video also told Portnoy they are not antsemitic. “I don’t buy it for a moment,” said Portnoy. “Who would be the f— making that sign in my bar f – think I’m going to sit here? I’m going to make my mission to put you in lights.”
He added, “Tell me how to do this right before I go apes—. You want to take anti-Semitism classes? You want to do anyway? You make it feel right. I don’t need your tears … trust me, they take the photos.”
Portnoy continued, “I’m 20 steps ahead and I’m using everything. I’m going to come around your neck f – ing unless you give me answers.”
Despite his anger, Portnoy also said he wanted to try to maintain his cool. “What I’m saying is: I get the names, I’m trying to be a little responsible, I’m trying to keep it together, but I’m on it. I’m f – ing on it,” he explained.
In another video, Portnoy published, once it had a chance to cool a little, he created a better solution: Education.
“Two hours ago, literally I could have cooked an egg on my head,” said Portnoy in the clip, who also shared by Instagram. “That’s the amount of steam and heat I had come out of my ears. And the more I thought about it, it’s like these are young cares f – ing did this. They’re drunk. It’s like you really want to ruin someone’s life.”
Portnoy added that he has “more hatred, more anti-Semitism in the past year, a year and a half I’ve ever had” in his time running Barstool.
“So, yes, my initial response was like, I’m going to burn these people to the ground,” he said. “Their families, everything. And it’s like, you know what? Maybe it’s not the best way to take action. Maybe I can use this as a teaching moment.”
Portnoy said he will send the customers who bought the offensive sign to Auschwitz, one of the most horrific concentration camps operated by Nazi Germany in Poland occupied during the Holocaust and the Second World War.
“They have agreed to go,” he explained. “We’re going to send these children to Auschwitz and they’re going to tour the summary camps in Germany, and hopefully learn something.”
Portnoy concluded, “And perhaps their lives are not spoiled and they think twice and more importantly, other people like, see, it’s not just like words you throw around.”
