Chandler Bing Vanderbilt speaks his name and college -basket

Vanderbilt’s Chandler bing know you’ve heard his name before – but he swore not named after the late Matthew Perry’s dear character on Friends.

Of course, that didn’t stop the jokes from pouring in after Bing announced his decision to go to Nashville School, Tennessee, on Tuesday, April 29.

“My parents didn’t even think about the show,” he have told the Tenessean In an interview announced on Friday, May 2. “My mother has seen the show, but when they named me, he probably didn’t watch that much, he didn’t even think about that.”

Bing added that while he had already heard plenty of friends related jokes in his life, he knew there was more to come as he continues his basketball career.

“I haven’t really watched the show,” he said. “But I never had a problem with (the jokes). Once people told me about it, I was like, ‘Okay, well, I know I’m going to get it a lot now.’ “

The young ball -basket star also told the outlet for him to choose Vanderbilt because he wanted to compete at a high level in the SEC. “Play against the best men … that was definitely a big part of it,” he said. “It was a pretty easy decision for me. Going up there, seeing the campus, the facilities, the city. It was definitely a place, where I can grow on and off the court.”

Vanderbilt is also home to a talented women’s ball -basketball team containing rising sophomore Mikayla Blakes and younger rising Khamil Pierre. The pair joined their fellow players Sacha Washington and Justine Pissott In 2025 USA Basketball 3x Nationals on Arizona Athletic Lands in Mesa, Arizona, May 2 through May 4.

The event showcases 16 teams in total hoping to win a 3 × 3 championship and to be evaluated for a place on the US US National Basket Team. Additional teams feature at the event come from Fairfield, Florida, James Madison, Oklahoma State, Richmond, de Carolina, de Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin and TCU.

Blakes, Pierre and Pissott all played a big part in leading the women’s basketball team in Vanderbilt to their 20-win win and appearance at this year’s Madness March Tournament.

Blakes on average were 23.3 points per game during the 2024-25 season and was named USBWA Tamika Catchings Freshman of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year; Pierre was on average at 20.4 points of the game and was named Team Honorable All-American WBCA.
