Texas government. Greg AbbotThe Republican, on Saturday, signed a bill on the election of the school, which will allocate $ 1 billion to the vouchers program that allows parents to use public funds to pay for their child’s private school.
The introduction of the program stops the long -term efforts of the Republicans who are in favor of choosing the school. Vouchers’ supporters have long focused on Texas, where previous efforts failed amid resistance to Democrats and rural Republicans.
Last month, President Donald Trump called on state legislators ahead of a key vote on the bill to finally send the measure to the Ebot table. On April 24, 2-12 Senate in Texas adopted a bill on Senate 2 after the state house approved the bill for 86-63 voting a week before.
“When I ran for a re -election in 2022, I promised to choose a school for Texas families,” said Abbot, before signing the bill in the governor’s mansion. “Today we are fulfilling this promise.”

Ebot was joined by Lieutenant -Governor Dan Patrick, State House Speaker Dastin Berrous, Bill and State Senator Brandon Crajton, US Senator John Corin, supporters of the school’s choice and their families.
“From here, ahead (Texas students) will have unlimited potential and unlimited opportunities in education to reach the rest of their path and education and what their families are best and that the journey was worth it,” Crajton said.
Texas joins more than 30 other states that already have similar programs. The Lone Star state will be the largest voucher program in the country.
This year, the school vouchers were the main attention of the Ebot, after last year’s electoral cycle, which called on the republican major voters to remove the legislators who voted against a similar bill at the last legislative session supported by the governor.

Proponents of the bill say this will give parents more options, allowing them to get children from children Bad public schools for the benefit of the alternative choice of public or private school.
“There have been days when families are limited to schools appointed by the government,” Abbot said. “A day that gives parents the opportunity to choose a school that is best for their child.”
Democrats and Republicans in rural areas who criticized the program claim that it will pull out financial resources from Students of the Texas State School And subsidize private education wealthy families.
“Let’s be clear: this bill is better only for the richest people in the state, and rural Texas, especially, will receive a shaft,” said the chairman of the Democratic Party Texas Kendal. “In addition, the school closure of the eva are in full turn without seeing the end.”
