In the sixth episode of Creature commandostitled “Priyatel Skelet,” we learn the origins of Creature Commandos member Dr. Phosporous. The episode opens with a skyline shot of Gotham, a similar orchestral fanfare Batman: The Animated Seriesand a referential shot of a stone gargoyle overlooking the city, setting the stage for the Dark Knight’s presence throughout the episode through iconography and leitmotifs. In the same spirit as the previous episodes, which rubberband from the past to the present, embodying the history of the characters as the Bride, GI Robot, Weaseland Frankenstein beyond his first impressions as C-tier villains, “Priyatel Skelet” gives insight into how Alexander James Sartorius went from being a coerced scientist working with the mob to becoming the walking nuclear skeleton he is today.

Midway through the episode, it is revealed that what initially began as a nuclear fusion treatment to cure cancer quickly turned into a method of torture that the mob inflicted on Sartorius after the murder of his wife After surviving his In Moscow-esque atomization, Dr. Phopherous enacts his revenge against the mob and becomes a head honcho in Gotham. That is until the silhouette of Batman, backlit by lightning in the sunlit ceiling of his nightclub, interrupts his Russian folk dance party.

Unfortunately, the blue flash on Batman’s imposing frame doesn’t give away any fleshy details like what his suit will look like. Talking with Rotten TomatoesGunn revealed that we only got a glimpse of Batman in the last episode of Creature commandos because he wasn’t ready to commit to designing the hero’s outfit.

“When they first showed me the episode, there was a lot more Batman,” Gunn told Rotten Tomatoes. “And I said, ‘I’m not ready to commit to this… more silhouettes!’

Seeing how Gunn previously disclosed that Superman actor David Corenswet had to convince him to give Kal-El trunks with his appearance of the silver screen after shooting shit with Zack Snyder on failed screen tests that didn’t make the look work, it could stand to reason that a Batman with trunks could be another sticking point Gunn isn’t ready to commit to the moment One thing we know about Batman in the revamped version of the DCU is that we do not see its origin story anymore.

“(Batman) already exists in this universe, as when we come to the Superman movie We see (that) Superman already exists. It’s already known to the people of Metropolis,” Gunn said. “We don’t need to hear the origin story again. It’s just a way to present that Batman is a part of this universe. It’s an important part of this universe, and it has an impact on it, including defeating quite dangerous and scary people like Phosphorus, which is quite tough.”

The seventh and final episode of Creature commandosThe first season will air on January 9 on HBO and HBO Max. The show has also been renewed for a second season.
