Even if Andrew Garfield was in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he was forced to deny it. That is why he knows saying that he is not in the upcoming sequel, out in 2026, really does not have much weight.
“I will disappoint you,” Garfield he told GQ when asked if he had signed up for the next quarter Tom Holland Spider-Man. “Yeah, no. But I know no one will trust anything I say from now on. This odd choice of words brings us to 2021, one of the many times Garfield was asked about appearance in No Way Home. “Look, I can’t speak for anyone but myself,” the actor said at the time. “They might do something, but I don’t have a call.” Of course, we now know that Garfield not only got a call, but played a major role in the movie. It happened to be so secret, he was forced to lie to protect the secret.
This time though, we think his statement has a little more authority. Little is officially known about the sequel except for its release date (July 24, 2026), its director (Destin Daniel Cretton), and its stars (Tom Holland and Zendaya, to begin with). Producer Amy Pascal also confirmed that he will continue the story from the end of the last film where Peter Parker (Holland) made the whole world forget him to save him. So, let’s assume, we’re going to pick up with Peter Parker, still as Spider-Man, in a world where no one knows who Peter Parker is, or that he’s Spider-Man. That is a very blank slate.
Could this story stop on the ground or around New York City? Of course. Could it be another great multiversal adventure? Absolutely. And if it’s the latter, could this mean Peter Parker reunites with his multiversal friends, Peter Two (Tobey Maguire) and Peter Three (Garfield)? For sure. But we only have a feeling, when this happens – not if, but when – it will be a little later. As in maybe Avengers: Secret Warswhich comes out next summer.
And whether it will happen or not, Garfield will not be able to say.
