Thanks to all the doomspeak we hear all day, every day on the news, it is difficult to measure exactly how a real extinction level event will be conveyed to the force through the 24/7 news cycle that has everyone at the forefront all the time. If I had to venture, 2021’s Don’t look upOriginal Netflix is almost as accurate as it gets because the public is so overwhelmed by the attack of information they receive at any given time so that I do not think that anyone would actually be worried about an alleged comed that hurts towards the Earth because it is just another bleak story in the news cycle that may be true or not.
Explore this idea to absurd levels with its striking black sense of humor, Don’t look up Offers a stunning but funny insight into how society would respond to an upcoming disaster, which ends in the world, when the powers that have no other choice than admitted they had been sitting on evidence of a disaster that ends in the world because they did not think it was a big deal at the time, and counted that other fluff stories would be better for graduation.
Don’t look up Focus on Kate Dibialky (Jennifer Lawrence) and Doctor Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), who are both working in the Astronomy Department at the University of Michigan. When Kate, a Doctoral Candidate at the University, finds a comet, she consults with Randall, her teacher, to confirm his trail.
Almost immediately, Randall discovers that the comet goes towards the ground on a scary scale, and will see its effect in about six months. Knowing that they have to act quickly to get the news out, Randall, Mindy, and Dr. Teddy Ogelthorpe (Rob Morgan) of Planet Defense Coordination Office arranging a meeting with President Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her son, Jason (Jonah Hill), her head of staff.
In a shocking turn of events, President Orlean treats the issue as yet another example of no one scientist looking for his 15 minutes of fame in the form of the nation’s hysterical whipping with Kate’s discovery.
Pressed into each of the classical disaster movie ropes, Don’t look up becomes an absolute circus of media treatment, double political, and humiliating an upcoming real extinction level event that no one seems to be worried about.
Had a chance to convey their discovery to the host at Don’t look upKate and Randall make an appearance The daily ripA light and incredibly popular morning talk show, only to discover that the hosts, Jack Bremmer (Tyler Perry) and Brie Evantee (Cate Blanchett) want them to downgrade the disaster because doomspeak would be bad for scales. Frustrated by the fact that no one takes their discovery seriously, Kate has melted on the air, making it the subject of cruel Internet memes, while Randall is celebrated for his good looks and academic charms, making him famous.
Only when news of President Orlean’s relationship with the Supreme Court Supreme Conlon (Erik Parillo) nominee makes his rounds in the news cycle the impact of the forthcoming comet with the Earth is taken seriously because she desperately needs a big story to cover his scandal Don’t look up.
Recruit a billionaire Peter Isherwell (Mark Rylance) to help organize an arrangement Armoize-Style a nuclear attack on the comet, President Orlean decides to correct the situation, but Peter only realized that the comet could be excavated for valuable resources.
In the meantime, the public has been divided whether the comet is a real threat thanks to the doubt of the news reports relating to the glasses, showing the fact that no matter how much you do scroll through your news apps, you do not necessarily get the full story.
Don’t look up In one of those catastrophic flicks that is so on the nose, that you can’t help but laugh at her ridiculous. But a little under his dark sense of humor is a more important narrative to consider. We are all fed into an attack of conflicting information through our devices, and on such a scary scale it is impossible to check everything, or even consider the fact that these stories are not published with our best benefit in mind.
As funny as Don’t look up It may be, it is also a scary satire because nothing about this film seems unrealistic. Okay, you may have to prevent a great deal of disbelief by the time you reach its third act, but as far as media treatment and public perception go in terms of catastrophic events, which end in the world, I do not think that the events that happen in this film are too far away from reality, given the current state of things.
Don’t look up Originally Netflix, and can be streamed with an active subscription.
