If the ceasefire is a real attempt to ensure peace? And if it’s just a PR?
Recently, this is a question that is asked a lot.
Basically against the Russian president.
The short ceasefire becomes completely the Kremlin.
First, Vladimir Putin announced a 30-hour ceasefire during Easter, presenting it as a “humanitarian” gesture.
The Kremlin leader has now announced three -day unilateral truce in early May. It will work from May 8 to May 10 to coincide with the events celebrating the 80th anniversary from the end of World War II.
In his statement, the Kremlin states that all hostilities will stop within 72 hours. He referred to “humanitarian” opinions (again) and made it clear that Moscow expected Ukraine to follow the example.
In response to the proposal, Ukraine asked why Russia could not immediately cease fire and urged it to sell at least 30 days.
“If Russia really wants peace, it must stop the fire immediately,” said Foreign Minister Andrew Sibikh, adding, “Why wait until May 8?”
So, from the President of Russia, who started a full -scale invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago, is this sincere effort to stop fighting?
Or just the Kremlin public relations exercise to hit Donald Trump?
Kremlin critics will suspect PR.
During an extremely short so -called Easter ceasefire, Ukraine has accused Russian troops for violating it.
Moscow used its proclamation about a 30-hour pause in battles to send a signal to the White House: that in this war, Russia-peacekeeper and the aggressor nodded. He accused Ukraine of ignoring the fact that Moscow had presented an olive branch and lengthening the war.
Trump’s latest comments believe the US president has not bought it.
In his publication on his truth, the social platform on the weekend Trump wrote that “there was no reason” for Putin “filmed rockets in civic areas, cities and cities (in Ukraine) over the past few days.”
“It makes me think,” he added, “what may he not want to stop the war, he just listens to me, and he needs to fight the” banking “or secondary sanctions? “Too many people die !!!”
Today’s message about another Russian ceasefire. This is a little longer: three days. And, again, this is a statement of “humanitarian” problems.
Another attempt to signal Washington that the Kremlin has only the best intentions? What is Russia really a good guy in all this?
If so, it doesn’t seem to have worked. Not immediately. The White House press secretary Caroline Levita noted Moscow’s proposal by a temporary ceasefire, but said: “The President (Donald Trump) made it clear that he wants to stop the murder at first, stopping the bloodshed.
“He is increasingly disappointed with the leaders of both countries,” Livit said.
It indicates that the US president may lose patience Now with the Kremlin, despite the fact that in recent months he has ruled most of his public criticism towards President Zelensky.
Last month, the Trump administration pushed both Russia and Ukraine to agree to a 30-day complex unconditional ceasefire. Ukraine has signed it. Russia is not.
Already high -ranking Russian officials use President Putin’s three -day proposal to try to throw Ukraine in a bad light.
“It is doubtful that (the president) Zelensky will support the decision of our president and accept the ceasefire,” said the Speaker of the lower house of the Russian Parliament, Volodin.
It is unlikely to be a encouraging sign as soon as after the announcement of another short ceasefire.
