Rosie O’Donnell and Lyle Menendez Have a very special friendship.

The pair, who first crossed trails in 1996 after Lyle wrote a letter to O’Donnell thanking her for advocating for himself and his brother Erik Menendez, has grown particularly in the years since they reconnected in 2022. O’Donnell has continued to advocate for the release of the two Menendez brothers, who are currently serving life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of their parents in 1989, José Menendez and Mary Louise “Kitty” menendez.

In an interview announced on Saturday, April 26, O’Donnell told Pages six she is talking to Lyle “about two or three times a week.” And while the actress is convinced that the brothers will be released “soon,” he added, “I think that is the only way you can love and care for someone who serves life without parole, is to have endless hope and believe in their ability to come out of this truly inhuman sentence.”

The pair’s friendship has also expanded into personal attitudes on the life of O’Donnell.

The friendship between O’Donnell and Menendez dates all the way back to the mid -1990s.
